When I bought this 2011 RX450H from a garage it appeared that it had a full service history, the garage servicing it at the 71,000 miles when I got it and a previous Lexus stamp at 58,000 miles.

I thought this one would have been the spark plug change but after checking with the dealer found it was the 50,000 miles one done late so it had missed the spark plug change.

The Lexus dealer told me it was a 3 hour job at £80 per hour (+VAT I guess).

Took it to a garage I have been using over the road from where I work and trust them for both the work they do and the bills. Also the owner has a Merc M Class Hybrid and they have worked on Lexus models before too.

When I went to collect it I was having a joke with the mechanic as to how much they have to remove to get to the back ones and it took them just over the 3 hours.

Went to pay the bill and was informed (to my delight) they were only going to charge me 2 hours labour (at £50 per hour) so ended up with a bill of £227 .. a lot less than I was expecting.

I hope this Lexus proves as reliable as they are supposed to be and that the previous owner has not bypassed any other important work... does not look like it thought according to the online owner info.

I believe Lexus only charge £250 for all 6 doing. £150 for the 4 cylinder engines so not much of a saving really.

So you bought a 71k mile vehicle with only 6 service stamps?

The Lexus dealer in Carlisle told me it was 3 hours at £80 an hour.. plus VAT plus the cost of the 6 spark plugs.

The £227 it cost me included the cost of the 6 plugs at £89 plus VAT

Lexus as a general rule give inflated prices. Haggle and they'll knock it down quite quickly.

But yes, should only be around £250 at Lexus for 6 plug changes
