Hi all.

jack sorry to here about the car damage i would get it to your Lexus dealer let them have a look at it telling the insurance company that the car is not driveable now if your policy covers a courtesy car get them to give you one asap.

Sounds like the damage to the back box has upset all the system.

All they are quoting for is rear exhaust not a complete system. Going by the cost have the insurance given the go ahead. Because the car is not worth much more so it

still could be written off yet. And seeing pictures is different to having the car in the air. How many cars have you seen in pictures, look different in the real world.

Then the car will also be on the register as a cat d so worth less again at selling time.

£2.1k sound about right looking at the figures and the rear exhaust system.

Id be going ahead with it

Personally don't get too tied up with it being written off. If it is, they should be giving you the market value of the vehicle at this moment in time and then you have the option to buy it off them for reduced cost.

If the insurance have given the go ahead, it won't be written off unless they state it is beforehand.

The exhaust is cheap and so is the bumper. How did you guys say 3k for exhaust?

I was quoted £2700 by Lexus a few years back for the fitting of both boxes and the centre section and I am pretty sure it was on a 4 to 6 week lead time for the parts.

This was before the time that they were freely available on the web - I have had a stainless cat back but did not like the nose (drone in particular) so made my own. The only issue I have had with it so far it a split in a pipe from a speed hump.

You have indicated that the body shop has not seen the damage and they have quoted against the pictures you have sent... i would very much guess that this is an estimate, in fact it is as it is indicated on the bill you have had. You really need to get the exhaust checked out - If the cost is accepted at this stage by the insurer and the body shop realises there is further work required are they going to replace parts or repair to keep their losses down? So you could end up with a repaired exhaust, not new?

Car got repaired by insurance. I am not impressed by standards.

Question, does it really not matter that there is gap/space difference between left side and right side of the panel? Does no one ever check this?

Trying to understand if I am used to high standards or am I crazy

If you are not happy reject it, every time you get in it will bug you. You have a right to a good panel gap and paint finish.

Thanks for the quick reply madashatter.

Notice the gaps. Would you reject it?

For my standards this is very poor. But then I do not know UK car repair standards.

The gap you are referring to is called a 'Shut Line' and it is a basic requirement to get this spot on as it is one of the only alinements that are visible when the car is presented finished. I would try and get an appointment with the manager and ask is this their normal standard? And would he accept it on his car?

The first picture is the one that sustained damage, the offside.

They are saying they will not repair it as this area was hit before... what is this. Honestly anytime a body repair shop justifies their high pay with their standards... they should be whipped.

What the hecks with that. It is  not a good fit who was quality control? Take it back and see what they have to say, i would of come away without it you are right not to be happy.

I have left the car with them and asked them to get me another opinion from body shop manager as they were saying it is to quality standards...

I am just laughing at this... seen better jobs done in 3rd world countires. Or someone just call me crazy so I can move on with my day.

Well there quality would not be my quality you stick to your guns. Notify your insurance and tell them you are not happy, and have rejected the car.

Thanks.

I couldn't say anything when the guy said he has been working since 17 years in this profession and this is a quality job...

I will be without car for longer but I have taken your advise.. I would have not been able to sleep with that botched up job. To me it is evident from pictures that no effort was made to fix the gap.

Quality job according to who? If a monkey has 17 years being a monkey, its not going to become human. Likewise, if a bad repairer keeps practising bad repairs for 17 years then he's not an expert.

Ask for it to be perfect I.E how it was before the repair - that's the whole point.

Can you take a picture of the whole rear end so we can compare both sides?

Apologeees for the spelling !!!

You should expect a professional job - you have paid for it with your insurance policy - you should expect your car to be repaired to the standard you expect from a proffissional and not to have any issue - it you puit it into a popcorn shop they I would havbe expected a crap job out as a result, You have put it into a respectable repairer so expect a good job back in return

I would not be happy with this - what happens to resale value when you come to sell?

Insists on a better job from the insurer - I done this with my wifes car a few years ago and got the insurer to put right a repair that was not up to standard - they actually replaced a front headlight with another model headlight thinking we would not notice but we did and they soon replaced it with the correct one (think it was a replace part from eBay !!!!)

I has asked this guy this question about resale. He said in his experience it will not affect the value. Mt reply was, you have more experience than me so I cannot comment but I need a second opinion. I said this as at this point I thought maybe this is UK workmanship quality and I do not know much...

But now I am armed by all your responses. Clearly he is a clown.

And this is from Lexus approved bodyshop.

65mike.

Get some pictures of existing IS250's rear ends, uncrashed, and see if they are of better quality...ie the same width of gap.

Once the snow clears I will get piccies of my rear end.....

I had found a picture of my car prior to accident and sent them

I am very very very disappointed with UK car repair work and insurance system which is a scam anyway.

They said they have fixed it and sent me pictures. I do not see any change. How do you guys handle this?

I know he will say 'this is within spec'. My *ick is also within spec.

Eastern Western Accident Repair Center Edinburgh. Name and shame.

3rd party accepted reponsibility.

Should I tell my insurance all this? I will need to check what I am covered for.
