If I recall correctly, Ford developed a heated front screen and patented it so other manufacturers couldn't copy it.  I may be wrong, but I recall reading that somewhere.  My front screen takes a few minutes to clear using conventional fan method.

They did but the patent has since run out.

It's a PITA though as you can clearly see the tiny wires in the screen. They're not straight either but wiggly.

It's more of a problem at night where they cause intense glare and tbh if combined with older people and potential cataracts, I'm surprised it's not a safety issue!

Have to say that VW are onto a great concept with their climate screens though. They dont have wires but a transparent layer of silver which heats up from within the glass. Can't even tell!

I have to state that my last 5 Fords have had quick clearing windscreens and none of them had wiggly wires within the glass. The wires were visible in certain light conditions and they were in a square pattern. Ford forum members even complain about them but only a minority But it's a ruddy good system none the less.

Since learning how to use mine now on a single button press I'm impressed how quick the screen clears.
