Front number plate fixing

So, how do you all fix your front number plates on?

Mine was stuck on using sticky pads, but fell off in the cold weather. 

Obviously I could just drill holes in the number plate and fit it that way. 

I was actually thinking of sourcing a number plate surround/bracket which could be fixed to the standard mount, then a number plate slotted in without drilling it. 

What set up do you have? If you have anything good let me see what you have.

I've always stuck mine on with sticky pads and have never had a problem. In fact they take some getting off when I'm doing a vehicle change.

I use silicone sealant for my no. plates.

Rough up the surfaces to ensure a good key then use masking tape to hold in place.

Sticky pads just make a mess and cant clean/seal underneath the number plate once stuck on. Also had some fall off

Usually sticky pads but on the IS plastic screws because I couldn't be arsed to go to Halfords and I had the screws already. Never had any problems with the pads other than the residue is a bit hard to shift if you do have to change plates. I'm not the handiest with an electric drill either so pads are easier for me.

Do the plastic screws go in the existing holes in the mount? I need to have a look today. 

Stucky oads are usually fine, but the mount is only 50% of the size of the plate, so you don’t get maximum fixing. I think that, teamed with the cold weather and frost meant my existing sticky pads failed.

I got Halfords to do it when putting my private plate on. They used sticky pads after cleaning the surface after removing the old plates. Insurance company was paying so cost no bother.

Not sure about the 400h but most Lexus do have mounts and the plastic screws go in there no problem

The RX400H has a bad design for the rego plate. The backing only supports the top half of the plate. This is a very annoying issue as I have had to replace my front plate twice due to parking knocks that have cracked the plate. This can be an MOT fail.

So to mitigate my next car park knock I have super glued my new plate to the old one as well as the 2 screws that were already in place. I turned the old one upside down so the crack is up. Now, hopefully, my new plate can withstand a little more impact...

I always use No Nails red double sided tape and has never failed.  Just ensure both the plate and bumper are free from dirt and any Car Polish.

A good tip is to gently heat both the plate and bumper....and even the tape and it should not come off.  Used a hairdryer, but as I am as bald as a coot, I use my heat gun.

Don't try any type of this tape on a cold damp day without using a wee bit heat.
