Hi, my 06 lexus 220d is ticking over at 1200rpm when i start it for good few minutes, any issues or guesses why? Is this normal

Not au fait with DERV's but a petrol engine will rev high if the IAV is faulty or the thermostat is stuck Open, hopefully a d owner will be along soon to expand,

question? Has this just started to happen ( idle was OK upto now) or is the car new to you? So after a short time does it idle correctly?

It is quite normal

It tends to happen when you run the air con compressor shortly after start up, although not always.  Mine will idle at either 1200rpm or 800rpm and has always done so.

As above totally normal until the engine is up to temp,It will still rev slightly higher when the cooler kicks in but nothing to stress about.
