Hi all,

I have recently bought a Lexus IS300h F port and I was told to get a tracker fitted by one of my colleages. I have bought the tracker that was suggested to me but I have no idea where or how to fit it.

The instruction manual says to attach it to a 12-36V charger (I'm assuming the 12V Battery in the boot). I have never done anything of this sort before so I just wanted to ask

a) is it safe for me to try and fit the two leads myself?

b) would me attaching a tracker to the 12V Battery drain it & cause problems??

Hope to hear from someone soon..

Shyamal

Ps: the picture below shows the two leads that I'm supposed to connect to the Battery if it makes sense to anyone

Shouldn't trackers be hidden away so that any thieves will need time to disable it.  If you fit it somewhere easily accessible/obvious to override then it defeats it's purpose.

Didn't the kit come with instructions/suggestions of how/where to fit it?

I'd look at hooking the positive into some fused permanent live (ciggy lighter maybe) and tuck the gizmo away under the center console. The earth can be ground to the chassis wherever you choose to hook it up.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Seconded. I assume you want to do the job yourself but get some advice from a car alarm specialist.

Fitting a tracker properly will take a few hours. As stated above the tracker should be well hidden which means your job is hard in that it'll involve disassembling your interior.

Hey guys, thank you for your advice. The kit does come with vague instructions but I've now found a link that shows where to attach which wire so it's quite handy. I might speak to a mechanic who might be able to help me strip some of the interior so that I can hide the unit properly. I will keep you updated.

Thanks

They usually stick them in a hard to find fusebox

Having said that, if they do try to nick your car, they'll probably know exactly where the fuse boxes are and that a tracker may be fitted hence you may find your with carpets lifted up and ripped out etc

Can tracker be defeated by a cheap signal jammer?

A cheap tracker can but the better ones have various frequencies to keep working.

Which make/model of tracker is being fitted? Some require fitting by registered fitters and a certificate issued before they are activated.

Hi all, just a quick update.. I've manage to install the tracker directly into the Battery and hid it away as neatly as possible.. took me approx 40mins altogether and it's working well for now. I will update you further if there are any problems.

Thank you for your help x

I wouldn't wire it directly to the Battery - thats usually the first place they look for it.

Had a mate with an M3 in Silverstone 2 with a tracker fitted. Car got stolen and left in car park but they ripped the carpet out of the front passenger side and the sill covers. Luckily the dealer had fitted "dummy" wiring so they gave up and left the car. Was actually on Police Interceptors not too long ago.

If you wired it direct to the Battery then I hope you fitted a fuse, or hopefully the positive wire may already have a fuse on it.

Interesting as my car has a tracker (as in tracker the brand.) Might speak to them and ask about it.
