Extended warranty

When I purchased my IS, it came with 12 months warranty, I purchased a further two years and it was tacked on to the end of the 12 month one and so I had three years in total.

I bought my 10 year old RX400h a year ago from a friend and we transfered the 2 year extended Lexus warranty to me - which has already saved me a lot.  Is the AA Roadside and Recovery included in that warranty then?  I hadn't noticed it!  That will save me buying it separately!

Whenever I have had the misfortune to have to buy a part from Lexus, the quoted price never includes V.A.T.  I wonder if this extends to the price of the extended warranty? I would look at what is included with the extended warranty from Lexus compared to the up to one offered by "Warranty Direct", which covers cars up to 14 yrs old. Need to check also on the maximum mieage covered.

I will buy the extended warranty, it certainly looks to be worth it at £995.00 inc VAT.

The Radar Cruise Control is playing up and Hill Start isn't working at all at the moment so they are going to call me to arrange a good time for me to take it in. Obviously with so much gadgetry not to mention air suspension etc it makes sense and my car fits their conditions.

Are you sure the hill start isn't working? You have to be completely still and plant the brake for 2 seconds. The ESP indicator will flash in the instrument cluster and it'll hold for a few seconds and then let go.

Whats wrong with the radar cruise? As far as I remember, it wasn't brilliant on the 3RX anyway

I have  a Lexus LS 400, and am thinking about changing to a RX 450h (maybe four years old) I'm undecided about spending a grand on an extended warranty. I'm drawn to the Lexus because of its reputation for reliability, as opposed to a Jag or a BMW. A grand is a lot of money and if I'm to spend that, I may as well exclude reliability as a criterion in my decision making process.

Hi all.

When i purchased the is250 from the dealer it had 29000 miles on the clock and was 8 years old and had the 1 year Lexus warranty which i needed as the VSC went wrong and costed £1000 to put wright so i instantly brought the 2 year for the price off 1 Lexus warranty admitted the car has to be survived at Lexus dealer but you can for the older cars have cheaper services done.

Warranty for say a BMW x5 might cost as much as 1300 to 1400 per year. Yours will be sub 500. While it's very unlikely engine or trans will fail electronics are very time consuming to put right now. That's where warranty protects against high labour. Been through this paradox myself for the last 4 months wondering whether or not to extend.

Lexus warranties are good value. Feel sorry for Merc C63 owners that have to pay £4K for a one year Mercedes warranty [emoji24]

To add my experience so far with warranty. I too struggled with idea of spending £995 for extending warranty but spent time reading this forum for any common or repeated defects and also grilled my local dealer for information who were very informative about what would or would not be covered. I was also given a recent group of cases to illustrate claims.

my rx400 was bought from independent lexus specialist with full dealer history and one owner so I felt reasonably safe but eventually parted with the extra money for my own peace of mind knowing the car 9 1/2 years old already.

So, so glad I did so as I have already made claims getting on for nearly £5000 and still have six months left on warranty. I could not have asked for better service form my dealer in Leicester (if allowed to name).

Of course it up to each one to decide how lucky you are!

I had the Lexus warranty on my two ISs which preceded my RX ownership.  In both cases my claims exceeded the premium, not by a lot, but it made the warranty good value.  I sold both vehicles with about 6 months warranty remaining and it's only £25 to transfer ownership.  Don't know if I got any more money as a result of the warranty, but it made for an easy sale.

 

Had my RX just about a year now and not had to make a claim.  I do gain a great deal of peace of mind from having the warranty in place......£1,000 doesn't buy much at a Lexus dealership !!

Like I said above, I may well go for the warranty as well but, just to play 'Devil's Advocate' it's not quite so cut and dried as the "£1,000 doesn't buy much at a Lexus dealership !!"

In order to have the warranty it is also necessary to have the car serviced at a Lexus dealership which, even with service plans and deals, is still far more than going to a local garage for servicing (or it is for me anyway). Secondly, there are many examples of Lexus just replacing parts instead of repairing. I can't remember exact figures but I think someone on here said that a whole brake caliper had been replaced for some trivial reason, at a cost (if they were paying) of £500, so they said that the warranty saved them £500. In reality, a repair or even an exchange unit would cost far less than that so the warranty didn't really save them £500 in 'real' money after all, just Lexus money (which is a bit like Monopoly money ).
