Hello and Welcome to the forum!

If you have any intentions of completing any maintenance, modification or just general enthusiast type jobs on the Lexus now seems like the ideal time to start a thread on the Brand New build thread section to share you ideals and photos and hopefully get a few ideas and tips along the way.

Don't think we have just a "sport" model over here so you probably wont get many answers but I may be wrong

Research the 220d thoroughly on this forum before you make a purchase.  My advice would be to find an IS250 instead.

I don't personally have anything against the 220d however I can highly recommend the IS250 it is sublime and worth the reduced fuel economy!

Evening everyone

Thanks for the comments and advice, I haven't seen many 250's over here, I shall have a look into it, I'm going with my mechanic for the inspection of the one I'm interested in on Thursday, I love the alloys, I think they suit the car so well and enhance it's looks but with a few of you guys recommending the 250 I must take heed, 12 people call me a horse, buy myself a saddle!! :-)

Thanks again everyone, shall keep you posted

Found a couple of beauties 2010 & 2011, very few for sale over here, everybody wants a diesel engine. Reviews online are better for the IS250 but is the fuel consumption really better on the larger, petrol engined 250 compared to the diesel 220, anyone able to advise me please from experience?

Many thanks in advance

No you will use a lot more fuel in the 250 than the 220 however you should save of potential other issues many other have had with the 220. You may be lucky and get a perfect 220 that has no issues and does great MPG and all is well, however 250's do seem to be a lot lot less troublesome, but that does come at a premium in fuel usage!

The 250 is a beautifully refined engine, theres a lot more 250's than 220's in the UK so its easy to find good ones!

Thanks for the tip dougie175, have seen in various sites online grumbles about the 220d, especially the EGR valve clogging but also seen a lot of praise for it from owners enjoying trouble free motoring, I guess you pays ya money & takes ya chances, that's why I always pay for a mechanical inspection and EMS diagnostic check. Prices are absurdly more expensive over here due to taxes, 2 - 3 times the price of an equivalent car in the UK but residents can't drive on UK plates so you end up paying the taxes anyway on re-registration + it's a total pain in the neck driving a right hooker in car parks and drive throughs!! What would you say is a realistic, average mpg of the 250?

Over the last 15k of day to day driving and some spirited driving my 250 has averaged 32mpg

Hi and welcome to the lexus owners club.

That white f-sport looks identical to mine.

I currently own the is250 and it's by far a better and much more reliable car than the diesel.  Trust me I've owned one.

As for fuel economy I find the is250 slightly better than my previous diesel. I regularly get low 40's on a good motorway run and mid 30's tootling around town.

Hi Rebecca and thanks for the welcome.

Yeah, really caught my eye the white F Sport and love the interior too, better to have the half leather half Alcantara over here as full leather gets too hot in the sun, you can't sit down when it's been parked for a while in 39° sun!!

I can live with mid 30's to 40mpg, not bad for power to weight ratio, I shall be making an appointment for a viewing asap, any tips on common faults to look for?

Thanks again dougie175 for the heads-up about your mpg

I had two IS250s over 3 years prior to my RX.  I found mid twenties mpg around town and mid thirties on a run and I don't drive as if I've stolen the vehicle, more like Miss Daisy.

The fuel penalty can more than offset the problems you are statistically likely to encounter running the 220d.  Just my opinion.

If you don't do many miles, the IS250 will definitely be favourite.
