High mileage ISF

Flicking through Facebook pages today and one post by an owner with 170,000 miles on the clock, he was asked if he had experienced any issues and replied ..."Nothing unsual at all.. waterpump replacement tensioner assembly and the usual recalls .... I have the sticky dash and door panels but mechanically it's a beast". Peace of mind for any owners racking up the miles! 👍

Good to know, I'm at 111760 miles so a long way to go.

I read on the American club site the sticky dash and doors is the heat from the sun.

Yeah long way to go, yours is still a teenager 😉. I doubt the UK would have the dash problems ❄ ❄, also heard reports of the dash material splitting due to the heat.

I know it's unrelated but do k+n typhoon kits that suffer from heat soak in the USA better here?  Every review about ISF induction kits in from the USA and have a different result at the end!!  So confusing

Jgtcracer. Don't think we need to worry about heat soak here in uk . Had mine on for 12 months. No problems at all

Yes there are loads of comparisons on the induction kits. The most comprehensive ones in the US seem to suggest that pretty much all aftermarket kits result in a slight (probably unnoticeable) drop in hp. The best for retaining hp are the hps type pipes and drop in filters but these dont give the addictive sounds you get from k&n/Takeda etc. I'm sure they do suffer from slight heat soak over here but probably worse in certain parts of the states. At the end of the day any drop in performance will hardly be noticeable.

If we get a barbecue summer you still wouldn't notice any drop in power as it would lose about 2 bhp.

But if you can feed the cone shaped high flowing filters with cold air from the front of the car then you would gain 5 to 10 bhp.

From my VTEC days I remember reading that a 10c drop in inlet temps equates to approx 1bhp.  I am interested in going down the k+n intake route and piping in cold air.  BMC make a carbon intake called a CDA where the filter is enclosed in a carbon box and a intake tube is then fitted down at a cold air feed

My plan was keep the standard intake box with a high flow panel filter with cold air piped from wing or under bumper. But I'm also open to the idea of a cone filter under the wing or behind the bumper, filter wouldn't be located in the engine bay.

RR Racing offer a hybrid intake which combines a K&N cone, CF housing and silicone/titanium pipe.  When combined with their tune and exhaust/headers it can start to make a difference but you'll be into some serious cash.....

Yep just saw it on the other thread and messaged the seller already to see if he is willing to sell the tips alone. Luckily the passenger side seems in good condition, the drivers side is all mangled!
