Funny Noise ?

I'm getting a funny whirring noise when the car is at tickover

It goes when I press the clutch

Any Ideas ?

I guess it's gotta be something in the gearbox or the clutch itself Chris - best get it checked out mate.

could be release bearing............

however i doubt it on such a new car

why not ask your service department/technicians:smug:

I have a slight noise from the gearbox when the engine is ticking over too, goes away when I dump the clutch. I thought about the release bearing, but with only 4,500 miles on the clock?? Does any body else's engine rock slightly on tick over, I can feel a rocking in the car. It is worse when cold but still present when warm.

I get the same noise which like you goes when I press the clutch, I've often thought if I was a private buyer looking at the car that would put me off as that's something they tell you to look for when your buying your second hand escort! Its never bothered me enough it mention it to my dealer. Chris, do other IS200's in your dealership do the same thing?

Jonny-boy, when mine's ticking over I can't feel anything in the car, you can barely tell the engine is running (except for the slightly louder noise described above when the foots off the clutch) Its perfectly smooth!

No Rich I haven't checked any other IS's

I will check the IS200 Sport (Demo) to see if thats the same and get the technicians to have a listen to mine

It seems from other posts that other people are getting this problem too

The noise has only just started within the last couple of days

Funny enough I have just clocked 10,000 miles

ive had it from new.........what we have to remember here is that its well noted now that the g-box is pants and possibly has gears made from wood inside..........so maybe putting some ronseals 10 year preservative in may just make it better:lol:

Have exactly the same problem from new as well (01 Sept facelifted car). Just got my flywheel and clutch changed at 10k service. Haven't been for a listen, but car seems much quieter in general.

Had my clutch replaced today ... Better but still not 100%

Just now while parking i sat with car at idle and front windows open.

Let clutch out gently and can hear a chattering noise which accompanies the slight judder.

Gotta be the release bearing surely ...

Guess i better check they changed the cover + bearing too - not just the plate.

Surely they wouldn't just change the plate - would they ???
