Black tinted windows

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know what is not permitted / permitted regarding having tinted windows . Just got back from Miami , IS model So popular there and they look good with blacked out windows . I was thinking of having the side windows done. Any thoughts , info please

From the 'B' pillar backwards you can do as you please. Forward of that the glass/tint must allow 75℅ of light through. OEM tints tend to be 70-75℅ as standard.

Police round our way carry Tintman testers and will stop any they suspect of being too dark

As above, but, side windows are allowed slightly less light transmission (70%) compared to the front (75%) in U.K. Law

OEM tint from the factory is 70% all round (except the sunroof which is 20%)

So, as Paul says, from the B pillar forwards, your pretty much close to max tint level allowed straight from the factory.

I've got from the B pillar rear done at 20% on my Lexus and I would say that is ideal. I've got one of my other cars done with 5% tint from the B pillar back and find it a struggle to view out of the rear when reversing in the dark.

i have to agree with Tayaste 5% tint is really dark at night ,if you have a reversing cam then it wont be to bad

but you still have to be so careful,i had 5% on a mercedes i had a few years ago with no reversing cam

you had to survey behind the car to make sure there wasn't anything you could hit then reverse blindfold.

remember when it says 5% thats the amount of light that can pass through the film so 95% is blocked.

Personally speaking, having similar tints around the whole car looks much better than having black out tints on rear windows and none or very light tints on the front windows.
