Noob question time....

Having had my car for a whopping three days and driven just over 300 miles, I am starting to learn how it all works.
I'll have loads of questions in time I'm sure.

Are there dampers in the boot to control boot opening/closing?

The boot flicks open an inch, no more and lifting it, whilst not particularly difficult, I can imagine being difficult for the elderly. I really need to push it up.
On closing however, it's as if gravity is doing all the work and with the weight of the lights etc, drops with a good hard thud, enough to shake the car.
Once past the fulcrum anyones fingers in the way had better watch out, it's like Arkwrights till.

Is this normal or are dampers supposed to give a resistance to the closing effect?.

Not sure on the Lexus but on the Mercedes the boot has spring assistance, these springs can become weaker with age/use but can be adjusted by moving one end to a different mounting hole. Perhaps have a look to see if the same with your car?

Lexus IS in EU does not have boot "lifters", not sure if that is right name. I had IS250AWD from US and when you click - boot was opening all the way up on all EU models it just unlatches the boot ant that is it.

It definitely doesn't drop like a rock - if you hit it hard then yes, but if you just release it gently it should close quite smoothly.

Obviously changed for the 2016 RC, as when I click/press the open button the boot opens fully. Needs a good pull/push to close and latch.

That said unless the boot is motor driven open there must be some form of assistance, usually by springs?

Thanks guys, I may have a poke about to see how the carpet comes away so I can have a good look inside.

My old BMW had springs, even on the lowest setting it could open with some venom.
