Thanks to Phil (The Acre), I had my first experience of an LS430 today.  Very interesting and enjoyable it was, too.

It felt similar on the move - not more refined, in my opinion, despite the bigger engine and air suspension - but the interior is much nicer: more spacious, modern and attractive.  Getting back into the 400 afterwards felt like going back a long way in time, even though the driving experience is much the same.  I can now understand why someone who's used to the 430 would find the 400 dated and a bit cramped inside.

Thanks again Phil.

It was my pleasure my man, and the greyhound sends her regards too! It was also a reminder to me of what a fab looking car the LS400 is👍

As someone who recently picked up a later model LS430 after having an LS400 (mk IV) for a while I agree - the biggest difference for me was the improved interior.

Found an old pic from my LS400 when I was selling it on eBay (about 10 years ago, wish I'd kept it...) and a recent pic from my LS430. It's the quality of the wood and leather that I think is the most improved. From an exterior perspective I still think the LS400 has the best lines. Ageless.

Yes, I agree with all of that.  They took a big step forward with the interior, regardless of what they did (or shouldn't have done) to the mechanicals.  It just feels like a more modern car, even though there's only three years between mine and Phil's.
