Rear lights on?

After spending the past four or five weeks parked outside due to intermittent and unexplained alarm issues; I reconnected the Battery terminal this evening, started up the car (first time which made me smile), and took it out for a short burst, checking the tyre pressures at my local garage, and generally enjoying a waft.

however when checking the rear light cluster, I noticed only one light on each side is lit, that being on the side clusters, am I going mad or shouldn't there be one on each side of the boot also?

You are not going mad mark , only the outside clusters should light up with the side lights on , the inner cluster houses the fog and reverse lights .
