Hi all

How are you supplying power to your dashcam in the Is300h?

The internal fuse box (passenger side foot well) has a white lid / cap that sits flush against the fuses. No fuse tap or similar would give it a chance.

Is there a better way of powering it?

I ran the wire along the headlining and down the door pillar hidden under the trim and plugged it into the 12v socket in the centre armrest.

I have the F770 which means I must hard wire / tap into two fuses (one, for the Acc on, and one for ongoing power during parking mode). To complicate, it's dual channel, so needs both powering, and then a nice length of cabling running all the way to the boot area.

Debating whether to tap a fuse and leave the cover off (concerned, as it's right by passenger feet), or run it into the 'under the bonnet' fuse box. How I get to run that, I have no idea.

Are there any Lexus dealer technicians that anyone can recommend / put me in touch with, who have the expertise in dismantling the car, running the wiring (without damaging or compromising air bags), and know the electronics so I won't interfere with or compromise any of the circuitry? Happy to pay of course!

I intend to use a piggy back fuse and may just cut out the fuse cover to accommodate the piggy fuse.

I'll see how it looks during fitting.

Had the same thought myself. Before doing that though, I am hoping to gather a few more opinions. Do we have any Lexus technicians knocking around on the forums that might offer any thoughts?

What does everyone think of doing something like the below image shows? Is it risky? EDIT: Us folk with the low profile mini fuses, don't have any 'fuse legs' to wrap it around!

Has anyone heard of any 'interference' from fitting / piggy-backing on a fuse?

Thats a bodge

Find a permanent & switched live and tap into ,solder & heat-shrink method. Inline fuses are readily available.

Off the top of my head I don't know the colour codes but what feeds the radio/ice would be a good starting point. Easy enough to find with a multimeter. The 12v accessory socket for the switched live or what feeds the interior lights by the rear view mirror.

Me too.  No cable visible other than where it goes under the passenger seat.

Just fitted my front dashcam (Thinkware F770) and hardwired into the AUX circuit via a piggy back fuse on the drivers fuse board.

As the fuse board is well recessed, I've left the cover off for the moment but I may cut a slot in and refit the cover.

Routing the cable was easy and only needed the drivers end of the dash uncliping.  The cable was then tucked in the drivers A pillar and roof lining, up and over to the camera. Excess cable was looped up, cabled tied and tucked under the carpet well out of the way.

Laid all the cabling today and got the power sorted. 

I fuse tapped in the end, but haven't put the plastic cover back on. May purchase an additional one, and then cut it up. Could possibly be kicked by passengers, also don't want moisture in the fuse box.

Tomorrow, will mount the camera. Have taken a few pics, and may give it a write up (There are not any tutorials for a front and rear cam, on the Is300h)

I aint confident enough to install the thing myself nevermind hardwire it! Halfords do offer to install which is whats pulling me towards their cameras.

Run the cable along & under the headlining just push it in no great skill required and plug it into the 12v socket in the centre console.

You guys are right. But I wanted to leave the centre console 12v socket free for cell phone charging etc.

Fair enough...hardwiring via a piggy back fuse takes just a few minutes 😉
