I'd be interested to hear of any lpg specialists you find locally, I've not come across any so far.

Hi Michael.

I've not been able to find a local LPG service centre either. The one at The Broyle at Ringmer seems to be no more as both phone numbers are dead. The guy I spoke to yesterday and where I'll probably be taking her for repair and service is: New Farm Motor Services,Alresford,Hampshire SO24 9QE. Phone 01962 732338. It looks as if their website has been hacked though,as all I get is what appears to be a Chinese/Japanese gambling page when clicking on the link.

This link http://www.drivelpg.co.uk/approved-installers/find-an-approved-installer/ will get you there though. It's going to be such a hardship to waft all the way to Hampshire though!.

I just wanted to make a point about the link above that John (thatfatbloke) posted. It leads to UKLPG, "the trade association for the LPG industry in the UK", where you can find a list of UKLPG Approved Installers. It may not matter so much for John because it's obvious that he just needs a service/repair but someone may come along and read this topic at some future date because they are thinking of having an LPG conversion done and I just wanted to point out that unfortunately, being a UKLPG Approved Installer' is not necessarily a guarantee of getting a good job done. Just like in most things, there are good ones and there are bad ones.

UKLPG are a trade association, not a government regulator, and people pay an annual membership fee to become members. I'm not saying that this is a good thing or a bad thing, just that they have no legal standing to do anything about bad or rogue installers. I've seen photos of abysmal installations done by UKLPG Approved Installers and beautiful, neat, superb installations carried out by people who are not UKLPG Approved Installers - and, of course, vice versa.

As with most things, there's nothing better than personal recommendations from satisfied customers and LPG conversions/servicing/maintenance is no different, so I'd advise anyone and everyone who has, or is thinking of getting, LPG conversion or other work done, to become members of the LPG Forum where, amongst others, there's a dedicated subforum entitled "Find an LPG Professional" where you can get recommendations (or otherwise) from other people.

The guy who converted my RX300 back in July did an absolutely brilliant job (couple of pics in this topic here). Very neat, very tidy and it runs like a dream - and I chose him because of what I saw and read on the LPG Forum. He's a prolific poster on there and he's well thought of by both customers and fellow installers alike. His depth of knowledge about both LPG systems and how they work, and also about how engines work in themselves, is almost encyclopedic - and yet he is NOT a UKLPG Approved Installer. He certifies his work to COP11 (or whatever it is) and gives a 2-year warranty. Because he's not a member of UKLPG it means that the car is not on the 'UKLPG Register' but that's not a problem for my insurer at all and they are more than happy to cover the car as normal.

I've spent the past thirty minutes trying to sign up to the LPG forum to no avail. It won't accept my e-mail address, and as for that ridiculous confirmation code..............

Me & quite a few other LS owners on here were using Proffess, S Wales I have had excellent running ever since (appx 4 years now), I also had the AA out for another reason, when the AA guy saw the conversion he made really good comments about the fitting of what could be seen, my own long term mechanics brother also went down to get his converted because of the excellent job proffess had/have done on my, 95LS.

No problem whatsoever Phil. Simon Andrew who did my conversion said that that's his preferred location (under the bumper but not necessarily central like mine) for the filler point because it avoids having to cut into the body or bumper. It's also my preferred location because it means I can fill up easily from either side. However, he'll put the filler wherever you want it if you have a preference and I've no doubt at all that if someone were to buy my car and then want a tow bar fitting, it could easily be moved or modified to suit.

Good to know that there are other great installers out there who have happy customers who are more than willing to recommend them.

I probably passed three or four other installers to travel almost 100 miles to Simon in South Elmsall (West Yorks) and seeing the quality of his work and the depth of his knowledge, I'd happily travel ten times that distance if I had to. I just love to see someone who takes pride in their work and can do their job well, whatever that job may be - there's no excuse for sloppy workmanship at all.

I have no idea why that would be John. I signed up on there back in 2007 when I was first learning about the world of LPG, so I can't even give you any suggestions I'm afraid. I'm sorry that you're having a problem registering but keep trying my friend, it's worth it.

I agree, I would do the same, I live in London & have heard some horror stories about conversions here, including from that AA guy I mentioned. Proffess S Wales are 300 & odd mile round trip & if I ever get a conversion again thats where I'll head to, if they were in Scotland I would do the trip without hesitation..

From memory it only accepts .com or .co.uk  certainly I couldn't log in with a .info and I daresay it won't accept googles gmail, or hotmail addresses or the myriad of extensions now available.  Its an old bulletin site and maybe  it tries to avoid spammers who are likely to use modern extensions?
