Hey Guys, (and Gals)

I'm in love with my IS250, and have had a bit of a disappointment this past Saturday.

AC Compressor is frozen. if I try to turn it on when stationary the car stalls, if I try to turn it on when driving at speed, I Can hear the belt slipping on what I think is the compressor pulley. I'm gutted :(

Anyway, looking for suggestions from fellow IS250 owners. from what I've read, I'm probably going to need a compressor, a system flush, and a condenser/drier/evaporatior?

@Linas.P  I read your thread where you replaced your compressor, did you replace the condenser/drier/evaporator? has it been OK?

Mine was working fine, up until it died... :(

Worst case scenario I think it will be very close to a grand to get it fixed :(

cheers

There's a brand new one (with several available) on eBay for just over £300. Any decent aircon place should be able to fit it and give your aircon a general service.

Can't help with a place 'cos I'm miles away.

You could probably find one cheaper from a breaker, but make sure that the ports have been plugged if you do - you mustn't let air/moisture into the unit.

Hi Thanks,

The ones I've seen around those prices are from the US, and are refurb's,

The ones I have found from the UK are 500+ maybe I'm not searching for the right keywords :(

My main concern is replacing it now, and having metal shavings in the system which may cause the new compressor to fail as well.

thanks for the advice, I'll try to find the part and a garage that can replace/service/refill.

Cheers!

No I have only replaced the compressor with reconditioned one. So far ~6000 miles, had no problems with A/C.

I'd be very surprised if you needed a new condenser.  I replaced one of my compressors with a unit from a breakers (£75) and all was fine, especially as the LS one was around £800!  If you find a used one take John's advice and ideally get it taken off the vehicle rather than buy one that's been lying around for ages, which apart from anything will dry the seals.

I see no reason why not, obviously it depends of what is broken. If only the compressor is broken I see no reason why to change anything else.

It would be interesting to know mileage of your car.. on mine compressor got broken around 140k... so I am just wondering if that is related to mileage or simply related to leak and in result compressor failing due to the lack of lubrication.

Thanks for the tips everyone, The car is now on 77k, and I don't know when the AC failed, I took it to JEM yesterday for a full service, and they confirmed I needed a compressor,

They are getting me a quote for this, but agree to fit a compressor if I purchase separately.
