Here's a topic to create some debate.

I've read that Lexus engines are a bit prone to carbon build up. Am I better using a fuel additive, or going for a Terraclean treatment? Or just using premium fuel most of the time?

Frankly I'm sceptical of Terraclean because it seems to be an expensive way to achieve something you can do more cheaply with additives if you take your time?

I had the terraclean done on my old mercedes e220 only because my uncle works at a garage who does this and I got a good discount .  Only paid £40. thinks it's normally over £100.

To be honest I couldn't notice any difference what so ever but the car was relatively new with full service history .

Older vehicles with high milage and not up to date with the services may benefit . I don't know.

I only use shell nitro in my is250 as it has extra additives to keep the engine clean. I don't do a great deal of miles so only costs me an extra couple of pounds each week.

Same topic here:

Terraclean is effectivelys same as hydrogen decarb - a very pure fuel which burns very clean and thus burns carbon deposits. Now as already mentioned, premium fuel does not prevent carbon build-up, but can make the process slower, that is why I have previously stated, I would better use regular fuel and do decarb once in 2 years... but that is only assuming decarb works as I have not tried yet.. and even after trying there is no way to really tell (except stripping engine down.. before and after to see results).
