I think you're supposed to press it as your car goes over a cliff.

I think it disables the tailgate power operator

Should I get the mother-in-law to operate the tailgate then :w00t:

It is electrical opening of back door, if you have this function. You can activate or deactivate electrical opening.

Don't know anyone called Cliff, but a Garry will do nicely.  :-)

Not bad. :hehe:

If only you were as quick witted before you posted your question

Sorted, As suggested it disables the powered back door so it can't be opened.  Odd really as all I used to do when I didn't want the back door open was NOT to press the button on the dash or key fob.  So seems to be a it of wasted plastic and wires.

Just standard valeting button. So you turn it off and lock glove box with the key. Then you give remote fob to the driver to park the car and keep the key to yourself. The reason for it is that without key, nobody can open glove box and the boot even if they have remote fob. You wouldn't want someone to be able to access it if you want to send the car off the Cliff with Garry inside.

As well as security as Linas mentioned, it's also for safety if someone is working on the tailgate and doesn't want it operated by inquisitive little fingers or anyone else.
