MY usually means "Manufactured Year"

I've always believed it to mean "Model Year ".  It might apply to a November registered vehicle say, that is the first of the following years model.

Yes I guess it is something to do with what Steve have mentioned e.g. 2011 IS had some features specific to that year - notably DLRs. So it indicates that the either Model or Manufacturing year is 2011, contrary to some 11 plate cars which are actually manufacturer in 2010 aka 2010MY, but only registered in 2011, hence has same number plates, but lack distinctive features of that year model.
