Juddering

Anybody else notice this. Hard to describe but juddering, skipping is the best I can do. On full lock especially on cobblestone or slippery surface the front tyres tend to skip as it feels like full lock is a touch too far.

Yeah, had that myself.

It feels like the back wheels are pushing the front wheels sideways.

My last car had a turning circle of a large yacht so even not at full lock I can turn in half the space.

Type of tyre, my Dunlops do it. Will change to Avon ZZ5`s next as alleged to be quieter & do not judder on full lock. I have been reading about this on the GS forums.

Dunlops are so harsh. Had them on my last mercedes. They were noisy and harsh. When I changed to pirelli it was a different car.  My Lexus is on Bridgestone and they are very good.

I am also getting this on my 220d.

On a cold morning getting out of my parking space can be tricky it is so bad.

Dunlop SP Sports on mine.

Is yours all the time?  I only getting the slipping when it is cold outside.

Only noticing it now the really cold wether has started and only on cobbled surface or block paving coming off our drive. My wife is doing all the driving at the moment and it worries her more than me.

Had a similar thing on my IS when reversing out the drive on full lock. Nothing on the NX though..

That is a bit of a generalisation. Dunlop have many different models of tyre, all with different characteristics. Many of the Dunlop tyres Lexus have used over the years have actually been relatively soft.

I have the same thing when close to full lock, tyres are Michelin Cup Sports. Seems to happen if there is any gravel under the front tyres.

Makes sense: cold weather hardens the tyres - at least until they warm up through driving - and therefore makes them less grippy. This is why winter tyres can be worth it in lower temperatures (7 degrees and below) as they have a higher rubber content and therefore remain softer (and quieter!). For the same reason, they will wear out quicker if used in warmer temperature though.

Yep my does this. Its on the original Bridgestone's, still plenty of tread lift. Only seems to happen if you are going very slowly and on full-lock.

This is weird.  I have never experienced this issue with any other car I have owned.

It also seems to affect various Lexus models with different tyres.

I wonder what it is about these cars that makes them different?

Happens on some models of Mercs too. 

Think its to do with the camber on the front wheels on full lock which becomes extremely positive on the turning side and negative on the opposite side of the car to the extent where only a small strip of tyre is touching the ground
