I was about to get my rims refurbished on my 2008 IS250, I currently have rims from 2010 IS250 Advance, but wanted them to be sprayed with the colour similar to the rims on Mk3 IS F-sport.

So this is what I have currently (and what I generally refer as "advance rims" even though they were optional on any facelift IS250)

And below is the colour I want to get:

IS-300h-F-Sport-wheel.jpg

Now I though and the guys refurbishing them have agreed... it might be "shadow chrome effect", but after looking to some examples they have in workshop I am not convinced. They told me they can make the colour darker and it will look the same...

Does anyone have refurbished such rims back to original or maybe can advise the colour I should ask for to get similar looks.

Phantom Grey as far as I know.  There is a discussion under the title F-Sport wheel colour I think.

Thanks for that, I have looked to first 10 pages (as you know search is not great) but can't see any similar thread. Is that Mk2 or Mk3 forum?

Yep 1E3 - Phantom grey appears to be very close.

The real colour is pretty much unmatchable.

Thanks, then I believe this is the topic Richard was referring to:

Previously, I didn't thought that IS-F and mk3 F-Sport rims are same colour (that is why I didn't look to IS-F forum), but looking closely now it seems very similar ... at least in pictures.  What I am afraid of... is to get that flat looks of standard Anthracite and 1E3 Phantom grey looks very similar. What I want to get is that "deep" looks of f-sport rims. I am starting to think that maybe shadow chrome will actually give the closest effect. Obviously, it is not the same colour, but instead black powder coating with chrome on top which makes that effect and not the actual paint colour.

I believe your right, a paintwork guy who did a great job on my bumper scuff said the the wheels are black painted then chrome on top so would give that look your after. 1E3 is what I use as touch up paint for the wheels and is a tad darker but it does for the edges where I get the most scuffs

So my wheels refurb done, but the colour worked out darker than I would like. It still looks good especially from further away... The "shadow chrome" is indeed the right way of getting the colour I wanted, but instead of making the colour "darker", the guy in the shop understood as "make it as dark as possible", so end result I have "murdered car". In certain light they look great, but from certain angle they look "plain black".. and black wheels on black car it is not the best choice... just my taste.

It is quite hard to see that in pictures, but rims had nice deep 3d shine, the problem is that the effect is on black powder coated rim. I guess the perfect mach would be same effect on dark grey rim... but I am sure I will kerb these rims soon and maybe at the same time next year I can try matching the colour again (assuming I still have this car).

On the side note, the tires looks tired and actually lighter colour than a rim, hence I guess tire dressing would help:20161211_023801.jpg20161211_023814.jpg20161211_023827.jpg20161211_023901.jpg

They look a very similar colour to one of my sets of wheels I had powder coated last year on my disco. 2BC1E465-835D-4AA1-8ECE-630019379136.JPG

When I look at the difference between my F-sport wheels and the LR's the Lexus wheels seem to have a bit more chromey (If that's a word) look to them.

Posted

Yes that is right, because rims are black so the darkness/lightness depends on how much chrome is added, because guys misunderstood me, they added very little, hence less chrome and they are darker.

Indeed your wheels looks very similar colour, but it suits in my opinion, because car is grey.

I need to get good angle to take picture, because in these pictures above wheels looks very flat, actually they are quite shiny.

@Linas.P @tayaste

Is that Phanton grey in the above pics ^^

Looks very dark in both cases, my wheels are the point of needing refurb badly.
I was thinking of "Pallidum" or "Phantom Grey" but im having 2nd thoughts if the above are phantom.

Sorry to bring up the old post but even using the search everyone says closet colour Phantom Grey 1E3

This is Palladium Grey:

Well... this is never ending question which doesn't really have an answer. Basically there is no colour code for F-Sport wheels, because the final colour is an effect which is achieved by layering black and chrome paint on the wheels. Phantom Grey 1E3 is a standard automotive colour which gives similar colour from like 5 metres away, but depending on the light may look completely different from the original colour. The key to the F-Sport look is that it shifts based on angle and light, could look almost chrome or could look almost black.

The closest I got on my F-Sport wheels was smoked chrome finish, which was basically black wheels with some chrome sprayed on to and suspended in the clearcoat. That said when insurance needed to refurbish two wheels the shop got them almost exactly matching to what they were and I quite liked them.

In short - just ask shop to get the finish to back of what it is, but you can mention that it is not just "grey anthracite" finish and they won't get away with it, that said most of shops specialising in wheels refurbishment knows how to achieve matching looks.

Since you're in Fife, I'd recommend We Restore Alloys in Kirkcaldy. They've refurbished my F-Sport wheels twice now and did a grand job both times.

As @Linas.P says, getting the right look is a process of blowing over a gloss black wheel with chrome effect paint, and not just applying a normal gray colour.

This was how they turned out when I requested an OEM-style finish.

The 2nd time I got them done, I requested the same finish, but slightly darker this time.

LOL This is uncanny..

I am in the process of possibly buying a 2014 IS300h F-Sport and one of the wheels has a slight curb scuff on it. The rest are mint but i would be a bit apprehensive getting just one refurbished in case the match was slightly out.

Does anyone have a touch up paint code that is a close match to the colour of the IS300h F-Sport to make it stand out less until the others get inevitably curbed and i might get them all done in a nice matte bronze. 😄

The oem-style finish is what i am after, mines are currently too dark for my liking during the day, at night they do look sexy lol

Did you specify anything specific for the oem-finish?  I cannot just request that as mines were shoddily painted by the car dealer when i bought it last Jan, apart from me scuffing all 4 wheels, the tyre fitter said the paint was shoddy that it was just flaking off when changing the tyres on sunday.

How much did you pay?

Yeah, For the sake of a tenner though for a touch up to not make it as prominent to see daily its worth looking into.

Why don't you ask seller to sort it out? And yes - sadly no touch-up available as there are no colour code... but any sort of greyish paint would hide the scuffs fairly well.

I just asked for them to be done in shadow chrome, as close to OEM as possible.

£60+VAT per wheel.

Its not a dealer its a good friend and i am getting a decent deal as it is..

I have just actually realised it looks VERY similar to my old 200SX S13 KG2 Colour and i think i have a old touch up in the garage for that unless its dried up after 15_ Years.. 🤣

That is good price for 18" wheel... clear savings not living in London! I think I paid closer to £100.

I've had a few quotes for the 18" 2 of them said £200 another said £220.. thats all for wheels price is including vat

I'm sure for the is250 I paid £180 back in 2021

The colour looks very similar to the wheels on the F sport RC 2020.I have no idea what the colour code is.probably too much to expect Lexus to know,or help.

Had mine done around May last year, cost me £80 a corner and had all four done (acid dipped and powder coated). They were able to march the F Sport colour pretty well.

Any good paint shop can match any colour as long as they have a sample of it or the correct cmyk or pantone value.
