The lid is stuck in the closed position: it should spring open when pressed down but no longer does so. Is there a non-destructive way to release it ?

I'm sorry but I don't know!

Do you know what might have caused it to stick shut?

I.e.: soft drink dribbled into the catch or a loose tissue causing it to bind?

Only thing I can suggest is something smooth and flat like a butter knife to prise up right by the catch after you push down to release the lock...

Is the button stuck down?

I know it has a spring underneath it because once, the button on my previous car "popped off" and I had to go and hunt around for the spring... which I eventually found on the back seat! It was just a matter of placing the spring into position and pushing the button back in place

DanD: thanks for your interest but I'm not refering to the rear-most compartment which does have Open & Close buttons but to the other smaller one forward of that which should pop up when the lid itself is pressed.

So you mean the cup-holder with the wood lid? If so, Chris's idea may work well.

Right,  here goes.

Mine had exactly the same problem and was initially sorted by accident when the Satnav stuck to the lid.Wriggling it from side-to-side got it open.

I then (without Satnav)  shook lid from side to side and it now works every time.   Pity it took me two years to find it especially when the spare keys were in there!
