When I recently bought my IS300 from a London Lexus dealer I was talked into taking out an insurance for the wheels & tyres . It cost £495 for 36 months . I felt I was badgered into it and I would not normally pay for this , would prefer protection against scratched paintwork . Has anyone out there had similar and found it worthwhile , or found it a waste of money ?

Generally it depends on the model you have. The Luxury and SE have bigger profiles and are less likely to suffer from kerb damage. The F-Sport and Premier get kerbed very easily.

Also it depends on where you park and how often you're mounting or unmounting kerbs. If you find yourself parking on the street its worth having as the extremeties of the IS are hard to place and inevitably you will end up kerbing the wheel.

However, having said that £495 for 3 years is steep but I dont know the ins and outs of the policy.

Do you have to pay an excess for each wheel repair and how many can you have done in the 36 month period?

You can also get smart cover repair from Lexus which will sort out the dings and scratches.

Hi Howard and welcome to the LOC. We are a friendly bunch so please don’t hold back asking questions big or small should you have any problems with your car. We always welcome ideas on how to overcome problems with our cars but as they are the finest cars in the universe they don’t go wrong that often.

We always love to see pictures of your cars so don't be shy.

Happy Lexus Motoring.

There is no excess for each claim . You can claim multiple times , so if you keep on getting wheels repaired you would eventually get your money back , but I can see already that I'm not going to have the same issues As  I had with Jagaur XF with lower profile tyres . The tyres in this car seem less likely to rub most curbs . I guess I will just go with it now .
