High mileage

Hi just joined as I am thinking about a 2005 rx400h with 150k on the clock. I know that is high but is it anything to worry about as we only intend to use it 3 months a year and add another 3-4 k a year? Plus it will be in a garage not driven for up to 2 months at a time is this a problem?

Hi Ron, welcome. I have no personal experience of Lexus hybrids but I guess you are asking because you suspect there may be peculiarities to parking a hybrid long term. However, no doubt some better qualified will be along soon! By all accounts, the RX400h will not be clapped-out at 150k by any means, and should provide you will many years service. Leaving a car standing I'd recommend over-pressuring the tyres and connecting a trickle charger; a hybrid owner will be able to advise you better regarding the particular issue of leaving a hybrid Battery without a fresh charge. But might be worth a hybrid check at a Lexus dealer if you do decide to buy.

Hi Ron and welcome to the LOC. We are a friendly bunch so please don’t hold back asking questions big or small should you have any problems with your car. We always welcome ideas on how to overcome problems with our cars but as they are the finest cars in the universe they don’t go wrong that often.

We always love to see pictures of your cars so don't be shy.

Happy Lexus Motoring.

Mike. Bluesman.

Welcome Ron

There aren't many at that mileage so longer term reliability is difficult to predict. Have the underside checked for corrosion, the undersealing isn't great on the Gen II RX.

Personally I wouldn't have a hybrid if you are going to leave it for those extended periods of time. The small 12v aux Battery will certainly need to go on a float charger but I'd also be concerned about the hybrid traction Battery losing too much charge and damaging the cells.
