Hi , as johnatg says , stating a cover stops things being seen and checked is just a comment ,In my opinion it is there as a get out clause should any problem arise within a short time of the MOT and you appeal that it was part of the test ,the tester can fall back on this statement because he could not check it . I have not had it on the Lexus but I have with other cars ,also where plastic covers are originally fitted over sills and they say they cant check for corrosion.

Cynical ? me     Dave

I would disagree they take fee for already trivial job assuming car is serviced regularly. Have you ever looked how they do MOT... it is bloody joke.. local Romanian garage does better checks for £20. And if they use it for get away close... then they must not.. they are paid for checking the car and if there is cover behind which they must check.. then they must check. It is the money they are getting for checking the car and it is not my job to pre-remove parts from the car which are factory fitted so that it can save time for them. I am sorry, but it is not Ford Cortina and not 20 years old Fiesta... that is true it is harder to see things on modern cars.. though for them.. they are getting paid for doing it and have to deal with the fact they might need to spend more time checking the cars if that is what needed.

This an go to absurd level then... "oh bonnet was closed, so we couldn't check underneath and the doors were closed so we couldn't check if any instruments are working.. and finally the car was standing on the ground and not floating in the air so we could not check anything underneath... so basically we just did visual inspection from outside and we must admit it looks like very desirable car".

For met the comment about panels obstructing the view is the way of saying - "we have not done the job which we were paid for and we don't want to take any responsibility either".

Quite contrary I would expect the to make comments about missing panels and not the ones which are factory fitted.

It's DVSA rules. not the garage.

True, but they still need to be more thoughtful.. they comments makes no sense. As well some garages makes these advisories, others don't.. so for me it just makes loosing trust in such garage... they kind of being bit thick.

Second point - I believe advisory is for the where you can actually do something e.g. tires wearing thin.. you know that you will need to change tires soon. Under trays obscuring access... is like "so .. what you want me to do about it"...
