Just called Lexus Chester, £300! I've had a look on eBay and there's a seller (japeurocarparts) with them for £179. Advert says genuine Lexus part. What do you reckon? Also, from what I've researched it's not a job for an amateur mechanic, needs specialist tool? Any idea ball park cost for labour at independent garage? Thanks in advance

Are you sure its failed ? ..the only reason I ask is that I had the same issue diagnosed with my old IS200 and it transpired it was a build up of rust on the disc rubbing against the back plate..had the same on a few cars over the years, it gives that horrible sound as if the bearing has gone, usually on cornering / braking.

That aside I'd ring up a garage for a labour quote - my guess is a couple of hours work at the most which might make that Lexus quote half decent if you are paying £179 for the part itself.

The noise appears at 30mph plus and increases with speed. Lexus quote was part only. I'm having a good look at the offending wheel tomorrow so can't be sure it's not the bearing.  I'm not getting warm wheel, drag or pulling to one side on breaking so ruling out seized calliper for now. I've never had a bearing go on me before. Car is 2009 on 84k

just to add my 2pence here, i had a knocking noise from the front wheel and when i took it to Lexus Leic they said it seems as if you MAY have a dry wheel hub/bearing..

in the end it turned out to be my brand newish Blue Print brake pads, which i changed to Mintex and wala the noise gone!

Wish you well mate

Lexus do not list the bearing just the complete hub at around £300.00 so there would be no need to start pressing bearings out just bolt up the complate unit.

If you can wait just over a week Amayama have them available for £135.00 plus shipping ( possibly plus UK VAT).

I have assumed that it is a front bearing failure for the above information to be correct.

By some strange coincidence the seller you mention on eBay has OEM Lexus ones (but no part numbers quoted) and OEM quality ones for significantly less claiming they are fitted with branded bearings.

What does the noise sound like?

Humming sound. Gradually gets louder as speed increases. Can't really hear it until over 30/40 mph.

Just had a look at that site. Where do you find the part number?

I have access to part numbers, if you can tell me which side it is I will provide part number.

Drivers side(o/s). I gave it a waggle this morning holding it at 3/9 o'clock and could hear a bit of clunking. Going off YouTube that's a sign bearing has failed? I'm really the most amateur of mechanics so could be wrong. Might get the local garage to confirm before I order any parts but would appreciate the part number if possible. Would you know if it's safe to drive in the meantime? It doesn't apppear to drive any different, just the noise
