Anyone else got an aerial stuck to the upper corner of the windscreen on the passenger side?

If so, what is it?

If it's sort of rectangular, it's a DAB aerial. I had one on my old Nissan when we fitted a Pioneer unit. I really miss listening to Planet Rock but that's the problem with cars these days - because everything is shaped and integrated into the dash, nothing else fits or looks right so I'm left with just FM/CD and cassette in my RX300.

Yes I have one and it works well. The trouble with DAB is that coverage in the UK is awful. Its like everything thing else we do in this country, just half the job and even that's done badly. Mike.

So is DAB an option? I thought it was integral to the ML unit that is in the ISFs. It's a bit tacky looking for a £50k car.

It is often a Dealer fit upgrade to get DAB properly integrated with a Toyota/Lexus of this vintage, though i don't know if the pre face lift infotainment system can handle it.

Its not really visible and the way it works is that one part of the aerial picks up the digital signal and the other part of the aerial transmits it to your normal car aerial. Your radio is tuned into what ever waveband the Dab tells you to tune into. Mike.

OK. Mine is totally visible with a little black box about 20mm square, with two 'elements' that stick out about 200mm towards the rear view mirror. I'll try to get a photo later (if it's still daylight up here in Scotland).

Quick question in relation to this. has anyone with a pre face lift car got the ipod kit and dab module fitted. can they be both fitted or is it one or the other??

Posted

I might be wrong, but I though that the standard DAB kit was a dealer fit kit, primarily because of the software update, whilst the in built iPod capability was factory fit. So I think that if you are after an iPod connection the only route is the aftermarket.

I have the dealer fit ipod kit so that's not the issue. I wanted to know can the available DAB option be fitted to along side the ipod kit.

Well, my 2011 can control my iPod/iPhone and has DAB if that is any help.

Hi Jon. yeah I know it worked on the face lift version as you have Bluetooth streaming and the HDD nav. I have a 2009 car with the earlier nav system that has no usb in the center armrest

I installed the GROM Audio box for £100 which allows Bluetooth connection to my phone plus additional USB inputs and all controlled using the steering wheel buttons, great addition to my 2008.

Poor picture, but the box and two strips you see here are what's on my 2010 car.

So this is the DAB aerial fitted as an option by the dealer?

Yes it is. What year is your car and have you got a USB port in the armrest?

I Have mine in a vertical position far less intrusive  looking. Mike.
