Can anyone advise me on what's the best way to solve this problem?

My 2005 RX passenger wing mirror has been permanently "dimmed" for ages now. It didn't cause a problem so I just left it. Now the gel (or whatever it is) inside seems to be falling to the bottom but the clear mirror glass above is cloudy. I don't want to spend a fortune on a new one and would be happy with just a new plain glass one but how does it come out? I'd prefer not to have to have the inside door trim panel removed. Anybody had a go at this yet? Will it have to be a main dealer job?

Hope you can help,

Alan

The mirror glass is removed by tugging from the bottom which releases the 2 clips either side ( a yellow duster slid behind and brought together in the front middle is the safest method) once the clips are released pull the bottom slightly foward then upwards to release the 2 top hinges then disconnect the wiring and remove.

A new glass from Lexus is around £220.00 but there are generic replacements on eBay complete with the backing plate and heated they won't of course be auto dimming, couple of used ones but difficult to see what the glass is like from the pictures.

Chepest ones are the stick over type but these do look tacky in my personal opinion.

.  hey, I'm from the Ls400 forum

I've been trying unsuccessfully at the moment to contact the guys at  " mirror in a can  " place ( in Suffolk I think )

Keep in touch and I'll let you know how or if I get anywhere with this.

Thanks Steve and Malc. Looks like I'm going to have to do some tugging ! I think I read a while back that the goo in the mirror will damage the door paint if it leaks out. If that's true then I'd best be getting it sorted pretty soon.
