How does one avoid kerbed wheel? I have near given up. It haunts me when it happens. Does it de value the car a lot ?

Why isnt there any overhang of tyre ? If i fix it I knw I will do it again.... its annoying.

this happened because of arched kerb on front wheel. Didn't account for it while 'perfecting' the parallel park.

It looks hidious now. These wheel refurb people, do they fix the rim of the wheel nicely ? How can they 'add alloy '?

There are protective rings, which takes damage instead of rim - but they look bit childish for me (like additional wheels on bicycle :D). Tires with rim protection are little help. My tires has it, but it is more protection from potholes rather than kerb.

To be honest I haven't kerbed my wheels on the actual kerbs when parking for a while, but I have few ridiculous 6"6' (2.01m) narrow gates on my way, and sometimes when people park car nearby the gate it becomes very challenging task... Narrow gates must be banned as unsafe in my opinion - they add little value as traffic calming feature, just damages the cars and local councils seems to use them as solution for everything, regardless it makes sense or not..

However careful you are, sooner or later a kerb will get you. If it's just a touch it's usually not too difficult to repair. Sometimes just sanding down any roughness and repainting will work - if there are chunks missing from the rim you can fill with filler, sand down and repaint. I have a sort of mid-anthracite colour wheels and I found that a mixture of Halfords steel wheel paint and Peugeot Dark Grey produces a good match - I squirt equal amounts into an aerosol can lid and use a brush. You should be able to find more or less matching paint whatever colour you have. Not a perfect job, but you have to examine the wheels really carefully to spot the repairs.

If there's a really serious rim damage get advice from a wheel or tyre specialist.

color matching is the difficult part. Lexus do not supply touch up paint. And if I dont seal it, it might bubble up.

I am guessing all lexus wheels might be of same color for the is250? I have the 18inch ones.

I am not sure about kerb protectors... they might look silly. Unless they can blend in if in black?

They do look silly - saw them on a car in black and they stood out like a sore thumb

Depends on whether the wheels are the factory colour in the first place! If you bought the car used, very unlikely that they are which essentially means its easier to get them matched.

Never heard of them before now and saw them for the first time on Wheeler Dealer last night. They were doing an 80s 5.0 litre Mustang up and they used an Orange coloured protector but also ran a flash the same colour down the side of the car so they didn't look stupid but without that I cant see them looking cool, mind you to call that car a Mustang was a travesty of the marque. A 5 litre V8 engine and the most the Americans could get out of it was 225HP. Mike.

I have seen quite a few cars actually looking cool with rim protectors e.g. white MB C63 AMG with white or red protection. Usually if protectors matches car or rims colour they don't look very stupid. But if you put red or yellow ones on otherwise stock black IS250... it without doubt will look silly.

My neighbour had his brown VW van detailed and had his calipers painted orange along with accents also done in orange. It looked gorgeous except for the rim protectors, guess what colour?

They didn't last the week

Did he take them off or did they fling off?

One was hanging off as he pulled onto the drive, another got wrapped in his alloys some days later and the rest were pulled of by him with a colourful language accompaniment. never to be seen again.
