Just bought my in laws a rx300 03. Few problems firstly only half the dashboard is lit. The speedo u can only see upto 60 and the temperature gage is also blacked out.

secondly and far more worrying, I got up this morning to find the front and rear driver side foot wells soaking wet. Also both a pillars and the seat. Traced it down down to a leak in the sunroof. But now when I drive it I can here water sloshing around somewhere. How do I get it out?

Hello and welcome to the LOC.

Get on well with the inlaws then? Were you not aware of these defects before you bought it?

OK I had to get the inlaws jokey bit in but seriously did no one mention these problems, the dash problem may be just the backlights out, a case of locating the correct type of bulbs ( usually from eBay or amazon sellers) then removing the dash cluster ( there will be a tutorial somewhere on the web or other members will know how). Replace the bulbs and refit.

The water leak from past experience is usually caused by block drains around the sunroof, there are usually 4 so one in each corner, the drain pipes tend to clog up and water then builds up and overflows into the interior.

It's a case of locating the drain holes and clearing them, the front ones are usually visible once the roof is opened the rear ones are a bit harder to locate with the glass frame partially obstructing access, thick strimmer nylon cord is a good choice for a drain rod and a washing up liquid bottle filled with plain water to flush the pipes.

Hee hee, no I cant stand the inlaws, just keeps the wife quiet. 😀

My local garage wouldn't touch the dash Board, saying a Lexus dealership would be best.

probelem finding drain holes, sunroof is knackered and won't open. So do you think I should seal it as a quick fix?
