Hi Guys

Having a spot of bother with the tilting mirrors when reversing. The drivers mirror does not tilt down far enough, I thought it was sticking, but with reverse selected I can manually lower the mirror so I know it not sticking........Question...can the mirrors be programmed as to how far they tilt ? if so,how do you do it ?

Also a question posed by the wife ? If I exit the car with the key in my pocket and leave the engine running and someone else drives the car away ,will the car shut down/stop when it realises the key is not present?

Cheers

I have wondered about the second question myself. The GS450H is so quite that more than once I have pulled up and got out and then wondered why it would not lock - because it was still running.

I think you can drive the car without the key being present until you turn it off. After that it will not start again without the key. I sometimes give my keys to my son, to unlock our driveway gate, then drive 400 yards to the garage, the car beeps and the red triangle lights but otherwise it drives fine.

Hi John

Thanks for that, does not sound like a very good security system if some one can drive you car away, a beeper and red light would not deter a thief, not that I ever get out and leave the engine running, it was a question from the wife .........so basically the answer appears to be ...yes you can !!

The reason the car still drives without the fob being in the car is a safety one. If the fob Battery goes flat while you are driving the car could cut out on the fast lane of a motorway or anywhere as the car would loose detection of the fob.

This is common to all the Toyota keyless start systems. If the Battery does go flat in the fob. The car can be started buy holding the fob close to the start stop button while pressing the button.

If you leave any car running you are asking for it to be stolen, and are also committing an offence " leaving an unattended vehicle running". Your insurance will not pay out.

Coming from a Prius without the SKS system I do find it strange to have to put the car in park before being able to turn it off. With the Prius system pressing the start/stop button with the car stationary instantly puts the car in park, and turns it off.

I sometimes still forget to shift to park, and just press the stop button. This does not shut the car down correctly, and unless the parking brake is applied the car will roll.

The mirrors only drop a certain amount  you may have your mirrors too high on normal running you can test this out highering your mirror and  selecting reverse and you will see it doesnt drop as far, and as you said you can drop them further with the switch I do believe this is perfectly normal so i would suspect there is nothing wrong with the system.

Hi Guys

Thanks for all your inputs, as of this morning (17/05/16) the problem seems to have resolved itself, with both mirrors dipping right down (have tried it several times to make sure) . Must have had some little Japanese electrical gremlin ?

Regards
