If I already have a Micro SD installed & associated with my car, can I erase and replace the files on it with new files and perform an update?

Or are the Micro SD cards read only?

I believe they are read\write but perhaps check with @matt8 as I think he will be doing the same as you.

Wow, this thread has got busy again!  I've been away from the site for a while.

My understanding is that the SatNav data on an SD card is linked to the Secure Digital serial number embedded in the card.  If the data is copied from one card to another the SatNav system will detect that it is a copy and not run.  This serial number cannot be read or changed without specialist equipment and is the reason why SD cards are a preferred method for software distribution.  DVDs and CDs that systems used to use were easily copied.

However, I think the firmware data is separate to this so copied data may work to install the new firmware and then just fail to run the SatNav part.  I don't know for sure though as I've not tested it.

If you look at the contents of an SD card you would find the files HASHLIST.DAT and LOADING.KWI - I can't remember which folder they are in but after looking at them a while ago they appear to have the same structure as firmware updates that I have previously installed.  Technically (and I make no guarantees for this) you may be able to copy these two files from an SD card onto a USB stick and install in the same way as previously downloadable updates.  It would be a brave person that tries it though - you have been warned!

Unlike other manufacturers that do lock SD cards to particular head units, I don't believe that the Lexus cards are registered to a particular vehicle.  Again I've not tested it but I see so many resold on various sites (I've bought a few) that I doubt they are locked.  A couple of us should meet up and swap cards for a minute to see it they work.

Update:

I went through the SD Card image (9.5GB+) that @wakhtar sent me and found the update files. I have successfully updated my premium headunit from VD12104A to VD12104B.

Method and link to files below:

**I take no responsibility for incorrect procedure by users, all I can say it that it worked perfectly for me**

Download new firmware here:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1OhHhsIDeF2J1PPLCUyl38O9dRXuu-XkN/view?usp=sharing

Format USB drive to FAT32 and extract files from .zip to the root of the USB (there should be no other files/folders on the USB drive other than "LOADING.KWI" & "HASHLIST.DAT")

Start car & enter "Service Mode" by holding the menu button and turning on & off the lights 3 times.

Select Service Information

Select Program Update

Insert USB and the OK button should light up.

Follow steps on-screen (whole process took about 10 mins max for me)

Credit: @pobrown for sharing update method & @wakhtar for sharing original 9.5GB+ SD image.

Report back with success.

See my post above if you are just looking for the software update, it will save you the time downloading the full SD image.

Saved me a job!

Thanks Capt!

I am new to Lexus ownership and tonight updated my prem nav to VD12104A using the Lexus Tech portal.

can anyone tell what the VD12104B update has that the previous doesn't? I would like to do the later update but will admit that if it doesn't change a lot then I won't bother.

Typically performance and stability improvements. Lexus don't provide release notes so we don't know specifically what has changed.

Interesting.

Anyone else noticed this? I've not done the update yet.

Sorry ignore the above when driving to work this morning and with  my lights on,the  jets for the headlights started working.might be a coincidence or just an air lock but definitely working ok.

I dont know whether I just havent noticed this before or it is something to do with the update but I have now found that the headlighht washers now only work when the headlights are on.I only noticed this due to the fact that my mate has a convertable BMW and i always use the jets when hes behind me with his roof down.and the headlight washers create a great wall of water.

I didn't know that but it must be so. A quick search (different Lexus model I appreciate) shows this is the case. See second post.

Definitely unrelated. The Nav firmware doesn't touch the body ECU and other components to cause a change in behaviour.

Lexus washers only work when the lights are on.

Is the firmware the same for all European Lexus IS 300h? Since one month I drive here in Germany an Lexus IS300h from Italy and the firmware version is VC03100L.

I suspect all my problems with Lexus Connected Services are related to the old firmware version. So far I could not connect to Lexus Connected Services with my LG G5.

Hi All - just got a new (to me) 2014 IS300h - I assume, from the attached screenshots, that I'm very out of date here? For those who know their stuff on this, what versions should I be using?

and also, further to the above, if I do install the latest version (VD12104B), will it be compatible with my car (currently on VC03101B) - I have a IS 300h SE PS COMP P-NAVI  with LEXUS PREMIUM NAVIGATION GENERATION 1, and what improvements will it give over the version I have?

Thanks!
