Hi all,

I am nearing the end of my first full tank, in my V6 IS 250 petrol automatic, where I have driven rather sensible.

Certainly not as economical as my previous diesel, but why should it be.

Any way, my tank average is sitting at 42,3 mpg.

I have driven around 430 miles on this tank, and the needle is down to a smigen below quarter.

I guess I have about 80 miles to go, so should end up with about just over 500 miles to the tank

Good or bad, ?

Need I improve my driving skills even more?

That's a lot better than mine.

I don't try and drive economically but I also don't drive like a lunatic

Currently, I'm getting 28 to 30 mpg mostly urban rather than motorway

That's good - I took mine to the extreme a while ago just to see what was "available" from the tank - only done it this one time and wouldn't do it again. This was motorway driving and a small A road percentage - if I can remember right the indicator needle was still above the minimum so possibility for a bit more out of it but that would be on fumes !!. This was on Shell V power

That's about what I'm getting day to day with mostly 5 mile commutes to work and the occasional 40 miles run.

On a motorway run to Guildford at 75ish on cruise I get 35+ mpg.  My convertible is a little heavier than the saloon.

You're doing very well Graham.

Convertible you say,

That sounds nice.

My view is that these figures are seriously optimistic.. Are they brim to brim or On Board Computer figures?

My 450h does not give 500 to the tank, even on long runs!

Anyway, onwards and upwards!

Hi John, I will be filling up tomorrow.

Then it will be a "brim to brim"

With my outgoing  150 CDTi Vectra, I could get 63 MPG on runs from Warrington to Poole and Bournemouth, yes its diesel, but I can get some very good consumption figures.

Wait until tomorrow evening, I will fill up after work which is 42 miles return.

Gently does it.

Cruise all the time.

Had a few runs into work, and a run down to Oxford and back

Much better fuel figures this time.

435 miles so far, and good mpg,

I've averaged about 30mpg in the is250 over the last 10k or so I've had it. Is about what I expected.

I've been running diesels for years so is a noticeable increase in cost but by God is it worth it! Unless I couldn't afford not too I wouldn't go back to a diesel again now

I agree, the V6 is jus so ultra smooth and quiet.

My last diesel, a 150 CDTi Vectra, was mega on diesel, I could coax 63 mpg on a run.

However, no where near refined as  the 250 I have now.

Still chugging along nicely.

533 miles,

52 mpg, which I believe will be just 47 - 48 mpg on a fill up in a few days.

I estimate another 30 - 40 miles remaining.

The type of roads/conditions I have found make a big difference. If you can get up to speed and maintain a steady pace on a motorway, consumption is very good. Around town stop start my consumption drops to 18 mpg. Acceleration and braking really hit fuel consumption. Long runs on motorways, that are not too busy, I can achieve 30 mpg plus. Hybrid mpg does not seem to vary much between urban driving and extended runs. Any comments from hybrid owners?

I am finding it hard to fathom how Graham is able to achieve 52mpg. One thing is for sure - his brake calipers are not sticking! lol

Hi all,

Filled up this evening with Tesco normal 95.

Brim to brim worked out 45.1 mpg.

557 miles.

12.35 gallons.

56.18 liters.

A little disappointing.

Was hoping more closer to 47.

The arithmetic is spot on Graham, so cannot dispute that.

45 mpg FROM A 6 CYLINDER AUTO? is simply outstanding.Congratulations.

I agree that sort of mpg is amazing from a 2.5 v6 petrol in my opinion!

I drive as smooth as I can, never let the tacho above 2000.

Gentle acceleration,

I do love this Lexus even more now.

The OBC , as in most vehicles, is wayward, so, even if 52 mpg looks good, in reality, it is much lower.
