Hi all,

When we bought our 2007 Lexus IS250, it came with just 1 key fob.

After phoning Lexus, they said a second key fob would cost 361.00

Of course, I feel this is a lot of money.

However, I understand that when a Lexus smart key is assigned to a Lexus, it can not afterwards be re-assigned to another Lexus.

Is this right?

Do I have to buy a new, and un-assigned fob (smart key) ?

Apart from Lexus UK, where could I try for a second fob?

thanks all

There no way round this one - some dealers may be cheaper than the others - some may program a key for free if theres a good relation ship between buyer and dealer.

There's no option of a Timpson style key copy. Its good in a way as the key cant be copied but on the other hand, in your instance bad due to the cost and hassle in getting a spare key. Have you got the master? How long have you had the car?

http://thecarkeyman.co.uk/lincoln-car-key-man-services/,  Whilst I am unsure if there is a simple answer to your issue, I do have a colueague who has a Lexus and has had a key programmed by this company.  Of course this is not local to you but they cannot be the only one worth exploring closer to your home ?  Not used them personally , have seen some interesting posts on social media regarding solutions.

This is pretty much the case with most modern coded type keys. Alfa Romeo wanted £310 for a 156 key when I was after one in 2005, needless to say I managed with 1 key for the 4 years I owned the car.

There is no way round it as when I bought is220d only had 1 key, done research everywhere, had to get from lexus in the end as it's a smart key.now bought is250 and made sure it had 2 keys.yrs ago my Mercedes-Benz e class cost me 100-150 including programme.try lexus Plymouth was told they can supply 1 for 200 @ get it programmed from ur local lexus dealer.they charge extra for getting metal key cut.good luck

Hi,

Thanks all,

I will give that guy in Lincoln a call tomorrow.

Yes its far, but I can drive a long way on 361.59, which is what my local Lexus quoted me.

Thanks

I'm sure a member said, maybe within the last 18 months, that they had manged to get a firm to do this at much reduced cost.

Have you tried doing a search within this Forum? It would be worth trawling back to see if you can find it.

Good luck and hope that the Lincoln firm has something to offer you !

Hi ,I am sure everyone would be interested in an alternative key supplier, I recently purchased a IS 250C from an independent dealer in Nottingham ,when they told me they only had the 1 key ,I insisted on a 2nd or they would lose the sale .They agreed as they said they could get it done through the trade cheaply .They tried all ways but ended up having to take the car to Lexus Nottingham and pay for the key +1/2 hr labour  total £340 !!!! ,OK for me but their sales guy was not a happy bunny .
