Isn't this like the problem someone had with an LS400 a while back, where it was nothing more than the steering locking?  It's easy to move the wheel slightly and lock the steering (without realising it) when you take the key out.

You may be right as the wheel was slightly turned... It was a panic moment as I tried locking and unlocking the car, checked the key was fully in, pushed the key in... But it was not turning.

Top forum and thanks for the replies. Still need to check out the magic key slot under the wheel...

I've had that problem on my LS 400. Nothing to do with the steering lock though. The brass tumblers wear in the barrel over time and jam. A squirt of WD on the key blade and into the barrel usually cures it for ages.

But I don't use a key blade, it's like a plastic key fob that goes into the ignition barrel. I don't think spraying that will have the same effect ??

Because the LS430 has the plastic smart key you definitely don't want to spray anything on it.  The keyless start, as stated, can be turned off by pressing a button, but I'm not sure that will solve, or is your problem.  Is it OK know?  It could also be that the gear shift isn't seated properly in park.  If it happens again, try putting some pressure on the shift while turning the key, it's not uncommon.
