Hi there, just joined to get some information from current owners.

We bought a 2007 Lexus IS 220d se recently in Jan 2016 with 81,000 genuine miles & Fsh for £3350.

So far we have spent £191 on a ns front Brake Caliper Carrier (lexus genuine part) with new pins, £23 on a new set of rear brake pads and £80 labour to fit the above and lubricate and free up the rear right caliper. These were the causes of the mot failure causing a brake imbalance.

£100.00 on a Oil/Oil Filter and Air filter Service, where they spotted an oil leak from the Timing Chain cover.

Does anyone have an idea of how much will this cost? Is it just a case if fitting a new timing chain cover gasket?

Apart from that there were no other issues on the healthcheck sheet.

Many thanks in advance for any help.

If you did not buy the car privately then it is the Traders responsibility to fix these items at his cost.

Hello and welcome to the LOC.

As mentioned in the previous post if you purchased the car from a motor dealer this should be covered under warranty ( a dealer cannot sell a car as sold as seen or trade sale to get out of their legal obligations).

Must have been a short MOT on it?

It depends where the leak is coming from, a cover gasket is around £15.00 but if the problem is a leaking crank seal or camshaft seal the labour cost will mount up.

The car was bought privately at a very good price considering its only done 82,000 miles. The leak as noted is very minor, nevertheless, wanted to know if anyone had any ideas how much it would cost. The car starts, drives & brakes superbly. I have AA BRC on the car but not sure if its covered.

So far been very impressed with the car.
