Hello there, today I picked up my first Lexus! Though my other half has a Toyota Yaris 1.8, so kind of a stablemate in terms of 'brand'.

I went for a 2008 IS250 SE-L Multimedia with just 35k miles and full service history. It seems to be amazingly well equipped with the ML sound system and Sat Nav Reverse Camera etc.

I noted that the first part of the car registration is GY58 and have seen a few GY registrations on the car reviews etc that I looked at (like here). Is there any significance to that as possibly being a press car or a head office car? The service book has in the back Lexus (GB) Ltd, Epsom. Looking at the documentation I got with the car, the second owner bought it after 5 months and 2500miles.

Really looking forward to the car, working out how to use all the gadgets! It's got a few less cylinders than I'm use to (last two cars were a 4.6 V8 Mustang engined MG/Rover and a 4.2 V8 Supercharged Jaguar S Type), but I'm looking forward to reliability rather than rapid driving!

Hi Stephen and welcome to the LOC, we are a friendly bunch and some of us even know how to pull them to bits and put them back together again, with of course the one bolt and washer left over.

I cant help with your present queries but I'm sure someone will be along ASAP.

We recommend you spend a couple of mins looking over the rules of the LOC, we will be asking questions later

Welcome, I had the same model and spec, Mark Levinson is epic, my only gripe was the overly tall 6th gear, the car did not feel happy under 80-85 mph, great car though!!

Yes it was most likely a Lexus Press car - ones that they give out to journalists to test.

Hmm, maybe it could have been a bit 'mis-treated' in it's earlier months then? Though it seems slightly odd to have a 58 plate for journalists when the car (mark 2) had already been out for several years? Apologies at my lack of knowledge but was there any model-wide modifications for 2009 that a 58 plate car may have needed to be shown off to the press (and thus would the car have had them)?!? Just spotted this listing on parkers (not always an accurtate place) that seems to show my model as from November 2008 to July 2010. With mine registered at the end of September that could make a bit more sense.

I wouldn't worry, the 250's are pretty indestructible. To me seem more solid than the MK 3's.

They aren't exactly abused. Besides any problems would have been picked up by now in services etc
