Toothy, from my understanding in my discussions with Lexus the update is a full software update to latest version which includes maps. I wonder if I understood incorrectly... I'll call them tomorrow to be sure

Hi mate it will be a map update and also firmware upgrade. My Mrs drives a IS250C with the later nav and USB update. She had it updated for better Bluetooth integration with her Iphone 6s. She was having issues streaming audio via Bluetooth. After the update all works great. I would stay well clear of downloadable updates on eBay etc as the nav unit in our cars controls AC, phone etc. Bricking it is a big no no! One thing i would suggest is when the car is in for a service see if the dealer can do you a deal on the update whilst with them. I had mine discounted a lot for the dvd when i had mine serviced last summer. Whats the worst they can say, NO!

So I have a busy but productive week commencing the 29th March. Tuesday she goes into Lexus for a service and software update, Thursday I have local leather repair specialist coming to refurb my driver side seat base and back bolster just to perfect the interior and Friday I am heading to LM window tinting to have the back half tinted in OEM 15%.

The tinting isn't for the look, it's actually not my cup of tea but the kids come first and it keeps the glare down in the back for them.

Fair to say I'm looking forward to it :-)

Two of my jobs for the week ticked off: service ✅ tints ✅

Few pics of the new tints, really like them, OEM look not to dark. This is the 35% grade, full UV protection for the kids to. Lovely job done by LM window tints in Corby, very professional, skilled and friendly, big thumbs up for them.

looks great!!! I want to get mine done but hesitant on the removal of door card and parcel shelf. Also the insurance company classify this as a mod and put the premium up! Well mine do!

Posted

Arqum, thanks I'm happy. I asked my insurance company about this before doing it to be sure and for me at least it had no effect, as you say it could be different for other providers. Can't imagine it would be a big price hike though surely?

As for worrying about the work, all I can say is make sure you're happy with who you select to do the work. I was more than happy with the treatment and care taken by LM.

very very nice! Have you got a side profile pic with the tints? Also does the cabin feel darker?

Posted

This is he closest I have to a straight on side profile shot. Inside it doesn't make it feel much darker, looking outwards it's less noticeable than looking from the outside in, does that make sense? When I look back it's noticeable the tints are there but it certainly doesn't make it feel clostrophobic. The 35% is a relative light weight.

So I thought my interior was clean...

i'd given her a once over with gliptone leather cleaner (my old faithful go to leather cleaner) but wasn't entirely convinced of its efficacy. I did some research and learned that dodo juice supernatural was presently the industry leader so invested in a bottle. It really is superb as can be seen below, I still finished with gliptone as it keeps that lovely new leather smell. Happy for now.

i did finish the job :-)

I'm gonna buy some Dodo juice after speaking to Rayaan. Looks like great stuff. Re gliptone, doesn't the dodo juice conditioner do the same?

Posted

I am sure it does but I already had the gliptone conditioner so didn't feel the need to buy any. If dodo's conditioner is anything like as good as their cleaner though its probably fantastic. Not sure a conditioner really does anything on modern leather seats but I use it to maintain the smell more than anything.

Looks pretty good, I'm impressed. Seems like just what I need after 2.5 yrs and 55k miles......

That's some strong mileage in 2.5 years JonP.

Welcome!

Nice work so far with the cleaning and paint correction.

The soft paint is a blessing and a curse! :wallbash:

Bird poo for example seems to ghost etch in the lacquer within minutes!

I've also got the Meguiars DA polisher G220. Haven't used it yet though!

like the light interior on yours.

Look forward to seeing your progress.

Cheers.

Thanks Peter, enjoying the club and the car so far. Just waiting for the right opportunity to complete the detail. I have no real plans to change anything on the car other than trying to make it as clean an as example of an ISF as possible. I enjoy the process as much as anything I think. Perhaps a front brake caliper refurb as it does have a very very small area of paint starting to peel but nothing more than that. On my previous cars I have generally bought a second set of used calipers, had them refurbished and then swapped them over followed by selling on the originals. Having a look around this doesnt look possible I guess due to the rarity of the car itself and by proxy the calipers. We'll see, its certainly not desperate I have them done, just a nice to have.

Sounds good.

You do see a few brake kits up for sale on the US forum?

I spend a lot of my time over there.

Worth signing up if you haven't already.

I'll do that thanks Peter, might be able to find myself a set. I just had a look over a few of your threads and I have to say that carbon work is sensational. I may have to look into doing the rear seat centre divider panel, makes a world of difference and much more in keeping with the car.

These forums are dangerous. I can feel my wallet getting lighter already...

No worries chap.

there are more up to date photos and mods on my build thread over on the Club Lexus site.

http://www.clublexus.com/forums/build-threads/790697-my-build-thread-from-across-the-pond.html

Steering wheel retrim was the most recent thing. Ordered my new seats, got a few more pieces being skinned in real carbon at the mall moment including a bespoke triple gauge pod for my Defi gauges.

wallet?! You don't need one of those! Lol.

Mine is always being emptied on mods at the moment!

Check out RR-Racing. They can now remap our ECU's. :yahoo:

They are also finalising a supercharger kit which should be amazing!

Love these cars.

Nice work with the tints and the leather cleaner. I've only got the Gliptone stuff so will have to buy some Dodo Juice cleaner. I hope it smells as nice as their Rainforesr Rub wax, still have half a jar of that from a few years back!

A carbon skinned rear centre piece would look awesome against the cream interior. I'm planning on getting the front centre section skinned in black cf along with the rear and the bits of silver cf style sections on the doors so it all matches up.

As Peter has said it's well worth checking out ClubLexus. The RR Racing remap is very tempting!

Peter / Gib, stop with all the temptation already, this car is meant to be staying standard and here you both are throwing up all these nice shiny bits and pieces ....

Had a look on RR, they seem to be doing some good development work, guess the ecu map is only really of benefit if you have the full suite of supporting hardware like you Peter.  All good stuff to know for the future though.

What can I say, I like driving the car. Still puts a smile on my face when I get in and press that button.......

ECU remap, blah, exhaust bits, blah, intake pipes, blah, SUPERCHARGER KIT? Damn, now I have to try to forget about that site, but it ain't going to happen.....

Lol, whilst exhaust and headers add more overall, the tune will benefit even a stock F it seems! :wink3:

Rafi also offers discounts on further mapping should you add mods that need it.

I'm hoping to do PPE headers next.

After that it will be supercharger and remap. .

Resistance is futile! Lol.

Now go buy some shiney parts! :yahoo::wink3:

Just read your thread from start to finish on club lexus Peter, STUNNING. I'll be keeping an eye on that one, inspiration for all of us I think.
