Thanks for URLs Callum.

The brochure fills in a lot of gaps for me like total system power is not the sum of the petrol engine and electric motor powers. Ditto torque.

Yes, that's right - combined output must be limited as motor is capable of over 150 and engine 290.  So there's 100bhp held back from us!  Probably just as well....

Did you see the hybrid brochure too?  I think there's 3 or 4 GS ones and one specifically for the hybrid system.

I'm loving the geekiness of this car - I'm an Engineer and see it as a technological wonder!

Apparently that's why it's badged 450h cos the total combined output was 450bhp.

sources seem to vary a lot as one article I read stated the electric motors could produce 200bhp alone and then the engine a further 290bhp.

my maths make that 490bhp if both could work at max together.

it seems that there are lots of factors in how the two power sources work together hence the reduced output.

if these were turbo charged, there would be a tuning chip I'm sure.

The  hystorical reason for Hybrids of 450H , Lexus says, is that it is a 3,5 liters engine but with hybrid help it has a 4,5 liters performance: the same with IS 300h that is like a 3 liters with a 2,5 liters engine ;-)
