Just personal taste but I would try to avoid white, black and flat red cars. Have not owned a black car but my white one never looked clean. Flat red is a terrible colour, as it can fade to pink. Does not seem to matter what make it is, some red pigments fade more than others - it seems to be luck.

I like big cars in white, and the LS400 really looks the part in white. Yes if looking for another and had the choice of White or a dark colour I would lean toward the white one.

Having said that I had a Diamond white mk2 Granada years ago (late 70s) and every panel got dented or scraped by other drivers with just one dent in the front valance that was my fault. I came to the conclusion that other drivers cannot see white vehicles as readily as darker ones, never had a white one since.

Just bought the white on on Gumtree. Mentioned in another thread

I think the white looks nice when scrubbed up clean, but not so sure I would have the time to keep it looking nice every week, as I use mine for daily commute.

But no reason to see how it goes, and if you find it a faff, then consider a vinyl wrap (maybe).

.... my first Ls400, a Mk1, was pearlescent white ............ J54DAP .... wonder whatever happened to it !

....... thank you .......... at the end of 2007 I had just moved and I happily gave it to a then tyre sales buddy for his elderly father to run till the end of his driving days ...... it was due a 180k service / cambelt change / 4 x new tyres AND a lady had just before I gave it to him, smacked the nearside rear bumper and it was hanging loose ( as they say ) ..... the power steering pump was starting to leak and the bodywork, where it had prior repaired damage, was beginning to slightly rust through ( mainly on the doors )

I thought it was time - to -go and bought myself my Mk2 Ls400

Bluesman hi, could you tell me the fate of my Mk2 too ............ M470HWO ... it was a write-off in my ownership through vandalism BUT I did see it on the roads a little later and after I bought my present car from ACLex ( on here at the time )

... maybe I didn't see it on the road after all and it really was a total write-off, and at about 41k miles too, shame coz it was such a low mileage beauty ................ 8542 miles when I bought it in Dec 2007

I have a pearlescent white 52 plate LS 430. Apart from the obvious ribbing I get for it being like a wedding car, I find it very easy to keep clean and it looks amazing when just polished. My wife has a black Honda CRV, which although very easy to wash,seems to look dirty.

I do find the GS300 seats a little better, but you get used to the LS sofa style (as I call it).

I suspect an LS always grows on it's owner no matter the colour, which is why they are so hard to give up.

white is a rare colour especially for the mark 4 - grey leather and carpets are also better than cream and does not show dirt or cracks easily - i think if you look after it it can only appreciate in value

remember to enforce the rule: No kids, pets or food in the car lol

i use gliptone leather cleaner and feed to keep the leather supple and prevent cracking and wear

The white colour on cars as always been a bone of contention with company car drivers,I had company cars for twenty years and the first company I worked for provided a ford escort mark1 it was diamond white and was a gem. The issue with the reps was because the group I worked for( UBM now defunct) was the owner of several ford dealerships as well as many other non motor related companies the ford dealerships provided all the company cars throughout the group.

Ford policy at that time was a requisite selection of colours regardless of preference by the dealership and the general public did not prefer the white cars so they were foisted onto the reps and managers of the sister companies. When your car renewal date came up you were offered the choice of colour and trim but whatever colour you ordered you can bet your last pound you would get a white one.

My father once had an Escort company car which had a black vinyl roof fitted to cover up the damage done by a massive hail storm at the Ford factory (or wherever the cars were stored before delivery). No sunroofs in those days!

I loved it then, they took it back after three years when I thought it was at its best with around 42k on the clock and replaced it with a brand new white 1.1 popular which was awful and unreliable the engine compartment was full of rust and it had no power,unhappy days.
