I kerbed the nsf wheel on my Merc a few months before the lease ran out, and I didn't want to pay £££ for a refurb, just to kerb it again, so I spent £12 on a diy "refurb" kit, car model specific, via eBay.

It contained small pieces of 4 grades of wet and dry paper, a filler paint, a colour paint, and a lacquer. I had read not to use the brushes inside the bottles of paint, but to use a decent artist's brush.

I took care over the repair, and while I could see it, no one else, including the two lease company inspectors, if they noticed, said a word.

So, particularly if I knew I wasn't keeping the car for ever, I'd try this first, before shelling out on professional refurb

Whilst this may be true for silver wheels good luck on finding a colour similiar to F Sport wheels. Toyota phantom grey is close but even that sticks out like a sore thumb up close

perhaps consider wheel and tyre insurance, i have taken it out on every new Lexus i have owned, i don't think its bad value at around £400 for 3 years. even more so on the RC-F as it has machined wheels that need to be sent away for repair.

any engineering works with a cnc lathe can refinish the surface of a wheel

the term diamond cut makes it sound likes its a specialised process but it is only refering

to the tool used to cut the material.

Usually they are sent away by the dealership to their own or someone else's bodyshop as they don't usually have them on site.

My wheels were sent to RRG bodyshop in Bolton by Lexus Stockport to get them done

My wheels were sent to RRG bodyshop in Bolton by Lexus Stockport to get them done

In my experience they are sent away irrespective of whether the repair is done by the dealer or as a result of an insurance claim. The dealerships don't have the internal capabilities and the work is outsourced to the experts.

When I first damaged mine and made a successful claim I asked that the dealer dealt with the repair and the dealer referred me to exactly the same people the Insurers recommended.

Only twice, that was on a GS 450h, as they can be repaired they sent a guy round to my house to fix it, no problem or hassle, he did a very good job of matching the colour, you couldn't see the repair, the second time i slid in the snow and took a chunk out of the wheel and blew the tyre, i took that one to the dealership, i cant remember if they had the wheel repaired or replaced it with a new one, i also got a new tyre under the insurance. i must admit over the years i have probably paid out more then i have claimed for, but i didn't want to take any chances with the wheels and tyres on this car.

i think it depends on the type of parking you do, 95% of my parking is down a drive or car parking space, very rarely do i have to park next to the curb.

Most dealerships will have an arrangement with their preferred mobile alloy wheel repair specialist. This is exactly what they do when they get cars in part-ex if the wheels are scuffed and actually want to put them on their own forecourt, rather than send them for auction.

they change the tyre if it is damaged due to hitting the curb or pot hole or if you get a puncher that can't be repaired due to the position of the puncher.

I am the new proud owner of an IS 300H f-sport in ultra blue. Traded in a BMW for it and having had the beast for a week I have definitely made a sound decision IMO. We already have another hybrid so I was keen. I have owned many types of cars from many manufactures over the years and this is the best all rounder by far for me. Lovely design, so comfortable and rewarding to drive so very impressed.:winkiss:

Dealership had done a touch up on two of the wheels which had very slight gutter rash but it was not to my liking. I am very fussy with my cars and having repaired kerbed alloys on BMW's before I thought I would have a go at these despite the problem of paint matching. I used wet and dry to prepare the damaged area then 3 costs of Halford's, grey primer followed by black satin and finally a satin lacquer to seal. Two friends and the wife cannot see where the repairs have been done and neither can I. It's a perfect colour match in sun, shade all sorts. :yahoo:

Save your money I would say and go for it, you will not be disappointed in the results.

You've done well if you managed to match so closely. When I looked at the colour it seemed there was also an element of green in it as well.

Satin black would be fairly easy to match with a rattle can. Most Fsports though have a metallic gunmetal type finish which is not standard or easy to match with a Halfords spray can.

IS F-Sport's dont have satin black wheels though?!

The wheels look black ish to me but agree they are not jet back that's for sure. I just happen to use a particular branded spray paint which calls itself "satin black" which appears to have worked well.

I will photo them and post the results! As I said I am a new owner perhaps these were an added option by the previous owner? They are definitely lexus alloys though.

Anyway I will post a photo, indicate where the damage was and hopefully all can see the results.

A photo would be good yes. 

The originals are gunmetal colour and are a pain to match

Hi

Finally got around to a photo of the repair. Sorry didn't take a photo of the damage but as you can see the repair at the bottom of the wheel isn't bad. Top stills needs doing. I don't think my alloys are originals or were purchased as an option. Would value an opinion.

Looking at the colour (Ultra Blue) of your car, it appears that you have the F-Sport so those wheels are the original wheels.

However, the finish on the wheels is not original, Id assume its been kerbed by the previous owner and either the previous owner or the dealer refurbished them but painted them all black.
