I've been a lurker on these forums for a while, whilst eagerly anticipating the arrival of my new company car, an IS300h SE, in Atlantic Blue with added SatNav and Parking sensors.

It arrived last week and so far it has exceeded my expectations and I'm loving it. It is by far the most comfortable and relaxing car I've ever owned. I'm currently enjoying driving to work again, and for the first few days was actually annoyed when I arrived as it meant I had to stop driving!

However I came across a strange situation today which the owners handbook is very vague over. I have the window lock on, as I don't trust my 2 year old daughter who loves playing with any switches that are within her reach. However, my wife doesn't have this tendency, but yet with the window lock on, the front passengers window appears to be disabled as well. Is this normal? Does anybody know if it can be reprogrammed so that it only disables the rear window switches? It is a minor pint, but it just seems a bit strange, I've never had a car that does this before.

Press the switch to lock the passenger

window switches.

The indicator will come on.

Use this switch to prevent children

from accidentally opening or closing

a passenger window.

It seems pretty clear to me. I agree though a bit odd, perhaps the same person who designed the indicators which dont self cancel!!

Ed :innocent:

it is clear as any seat other than the drivers seat is a passenger seat so the pressing of this button will disable all 3 windows.

just as a matter of interest what car have you come from .

Thanks, just seems very odd, I can't understand why you would ever want to disable the front passengers window.

I've had a succession of Mondeo's, then a Mercedes E Class, and just spent the last few months in a Hyundai and in all of them, the window lock only disabled the rear windows.

must be the lexus way of doing things, maybe they are just airing on the side of caution

in case a child is sitting in the front in a car seat all bases are then covered.

@capese21

I drove a courtesy IS300h only a weeks ago and the indicators did self cancel!

OK, I agree that they are unusual in the sense that when you select left or right, the stalks goes back to its original place straight away - as opposed to staying up or down - but the indicators did self cancel after each turn...

They do self cancel but the turn has to be fairly significant

I think it maybe a Japanese thing, my mazda was the same. I thought it normal to be honest.

I have driven many different cars and the is300 is the first car that I have to manually cancel, agreed not after every turn but more than any other car. The lane change function is useful now I have set it to 7 flashes.

I didn't know you could change it. Can you remember how?

Found it!! I have mine set at 5 flashes.

The lane change flasher can be adjusted from no flashes, 3, 5, or 7 flashes

Adjustment procedure is:

1. Ignition OFF, hold the wiper switch
in the all the way up (OFF) position, turn ignition ON, engine not
running, and continue to hold the wiper switch in the OFF position for 5
seconds or more

2. Move wiper switch down 1 position and HOLD for 5 seconds or more

3. Move the wiper switch up to OFF position and hold for 5 seconds or more

4. Move wiper switch down 1 position and hold for 5 seconds or more

5. Release the wiper switch. The right turn signal should flash 1 time

6. Place the intermittent wiper rotary switch in one of the following 4 positions

-P1 - all the way down = 3 flashes

-P2 - 1 up from the bottom = 5 flashes

-P3 - 2 up from the bottom = 7 flashes

-P4 - All the way up = no flashes

7. Pull the turn signal switch down the lane change position (not the turn signal position) and release. The left turn signal should flash 2-4 times.

8. Turn the ignition OFF and then start the car and test.

Thank you so much for taking the time to do that. I will be changing mine as well.

As far as u remember all my cars have turned all the windows off apart from the drivers , I find it useful as my dad is obsessed with opening and closing windows, which then leaves water trails/smears .

Really?

Does the procedure vary from one IS300h model to another?

I remember being able to change the number of flashes by just going through one of the menus on the dashboard using the steering wheel buttons...

What age is300h did you have?

It was a courtesy car I had for a few days. Of course, being a dedicated nerd, I played around with all the menus etc... but I'm sorry I can't remember what age the car was... may have been a 14 reg.

I have had a go at this this morning and I get as far as the right turn signal flashing one time but even with following the next bit of the procedure it doesn't change from my original 3 flashes. Am I doing something wrong?

It worked on my Fsport. You do have to be precise in the switch positions so persevere.

Read the thread, others had a few tries before success.

I have now adjusted mine to 7 flashes. It took me quite a number of goes to get it set up. I found success by substituting the 5 second figure to 10 seconds.
