I am experiencing a "judder" which vibrates through the car on certain upward gear change(s), usually between 28-38 mph. This is more noticeable when the engine is warm.

My Lexus dealer also confirmed a transmission problem however, they are unable to "repair" the gearbox as it is a sealed unit with no repair guidance. A new replacement would exceed the value of the car.

Any help would be much appreciated. Gabysgrandad.

Changing the fluid and filter would be my first step. Drain and flush a couple of times to ensure the fluid in the torque converter is changed too. When a manufacturer says sealed for life, they don't mean forever and when a car gets to be 10 years old, they've lost interest. However it's usually the fluid that's past its best, not the transmission. Take it to your local garage, they'll be happy to do it for you.

If that doesn't work, a second hand unit, from a breakers, is probably your best bet and your local garage, again, should be happy to fit it for you.

Filters are available so it is possible.

Also check the coolant is at the correct level and colours to rule out any mixing of transmission fluid and coolant - as is the common problem with some LS430s

Thank you for your responses.

A new radiator was fitted by a Lexus dealership in September prior to my purchase. Could mixing of the fluids have taken place when the new radiator was fitted ?

The answer to your question is no.
