"check Hybrid System"

Recommended Posts

I had this come up today on my rx400h when I drove through a fairly shallow puddle, maybe just coincidental, more mud than water. The manual says "stop as soon as possible" - anyone know if this is really necessary? At the same time the message "Check VSC system" came up. I've already done another 20 miles or so.

Sounds like the water as hit the O2 sensor and caused the fault code to generate, the vsc is linked to the drive intelligence so a fault may have also been generated. There is a procedure to reset the VSC and that is in the owners manual.

Well, problem solved...rodents! Chewed through wiring. Still not a cheap fix once they'd taken the engine bay apart, but a lot cheaper than a new inverter which is what the diagnostics said was the problem.

I lived in southern Germany for some years, and rodents used to be a pain in the winter months, as they would come and sleep in the warm engine bay when temperatures plummeted. Unfortunately, once they have found your car comfortable, it is difficult to get rid of them as they keep coming back... especially if they find some interesting things to chew on. It is such a problem over there, that some manufacturers have changed the taste of their leads to make them less appetizing! (yes, really!)

You used to be able to get some rodent repellent spray that you could just spray around the engine bay.

Apparently, "Rodent Defense" works (available on eBay), although I have not tested it myself:
