Hi guys. I have a Rx300 2004. It's not the original but the one Inbetween rx330 and original. I think XU30 chassis.

The navigation system on it is kaput. It displays a cannot read disc error regardless of the 5+ discs I have tried in the last few weeks. I believe it is a generation 1 device?

Any ways after doing a lot of research and thinking I have found that the drives have a tendency to stop working, either cannot read disc or no disc inserted.

I have found a replacement 08862-00840 which appears to have the same connections on the back, albeit in different places.

Will this work with my car. Will it continue using the same gen1 disc...

Many thanks in advance for all your help.

Hello, before you go spending money what discs have you tried?the system usually comes up with"cannot read disc"if the disc is the wrong one,or if its scratched etc.For the system to come up with cannot read disc it's obviously working otherwise you would get no message at all

The original disc that came with the car is 86271-24123. I used this on Lexus map updates to find the latest update (2011) and bought that. I do see that there is a rather large flaw in my theory, if the disc is not the correct one for my car then none I try will be correct. Thanks for your reply. Do you know if this correct for my car?

I have done this and got this result, PZ445-X01EU-11

I bought that disc but it didn't work.

So either my drive is kaput, or the original disc in my drive is not compatible for my car, and I have purchased a second disc which is also not compatible. How can I verify this?

Thanks for your response.

If you got the disc from the official Lexus map site then no reason to think it isn't correct. Does your old disc still work?

That nav unit has the wrong part code - it should be 08662 not 08862.

I personally wouldn't risk buying a Toyota TNS300 nav unit, it may work but I'm not confident.

That drive would be for a different navi then. Apologies for inputting the details incorrectly. Would this work 86841-53022-ex or alternatively 86841-53020 or finally 86421-30050. Apologies for the barrage of part numbers but these are what my local breakers have.

I've just bought the car- the navi has never worked for me and the previous owner has passed away. I've always had the incorrect disc error. I bought it auction and didn't have time to test everything before purchasing. I am suspecting the original disc was taken out by the auctioneer, and this disc was inserted. The one I was given is heavily scratched and has some disc rot on it.

I'd speak to your local dealer. The parts department should be able to give you the correct disc part code for your nav unit based on the VIN/chassis number of your vehicle. You can then determine whether the disc set you purchased was correct or not.

Hi Zainie,

You could try copying the disc you think is original/came with the car.

Computer DVD burners have a stronger laser and may read the disc so you can duplicate onto a fresh, high quality blank disc...

Does the original disc with numbers 86271-24123 work though?otherwise contact your local Lexus dealer with your vin number and they should be able to tell you the right disc and generation

Hi Colin - thanks for your help. I will call the dealer tomorrow and ask for help.

Hi Chris - I have tried this, it doesn't work. I backed up using DVDdecrypter and burn using imgburn. Nothing. I actually noticed that the drive continuously spins a cd or other media but the navi discs it spins for 2-3 seconds then stops and restarts. I notice you have the same car. Would you be able to give us the p/n of the disc you have...

Thanks for your responses gents.

Hmm. Identical to mine. Must be the drive that's gone. Thanks for all your help buddy.

Back to post #8. Can anyone verify if any of those drives will work with my car.

Thanks for your responses.

Hello. I have a similar problem, although I bought a replacement DVD disc from the Lexus dealer some years ago, so I am confident it is genuine. Besides, It has worked fine in uk and abroad for years, but I am now getting "cannot read data- check correct map disc inserted" or similar. I have removed the disc and cleaned it, but get the same message.

Car is a 2004 RX300.

Hi Chris

Thanks for the tip. I have checked the dvd cleaning disk on amazon and one buyer commented that they item states it is not for car Sat Nav systems. I will phone the Lexus dealers tomorrow, but I suspect they might try to sell me a new OEM DVD reader.

Presumably the reader must be working or else it would not detect the disc at all?

Hi mate.

I sorted mine a few months back.

I found a reader from a 2002 ls on eBay for £40. But of a risk as from a different car. Got seller to check disk numbers and it matched mine. Plugs looked same but reader was a different shape.

Unplugged the old one and plugged in the new one and voila old disk and new disk worked. Rx specific ones are like £300 but mine was £40

The p/N was 86841 53040

Hope this helps.

I tried a disc cleaner on the original and it didn't work.

P.S does anyone know where I can find instructions on fitting a parrot Bluetooth kit?

Btw. On mine I opened the broken up after replacing it and tried to see if it was repairable. The disc (any disc) spins and then stops after which the error message comes. It was almost as though the lense was not clouded or out of alignment. I figured that it was a replacement only fix, difficult to repair. It did the same with a cd a dvd and even the verified working discs.

I used http://satnavdvd.co.uk/ to buy a working copy of the latest disc for £30 to finish it off...

Best of luck

Hi Zain, thanks for the sat nav disc link! As for Parrot, there might be something on their website or a guide they can email you?

Goodplan, sorry that link wasn't compatible with the Sat Nav drive, but there are others out there that will work - I think the reason they say that one won't work is because on a home TVs DVD player, it comes up with video content to reassure you it is working - obviously the sat nav won't show this video as it is not a 'film' DVD player. Anything that is compatible for a computer should work in the Lexus drive, and is definitely worth a few quid to give it a try - if it doesn't work then you can still use it around the house!

Thanks Zain and Chris

Zain - so it's ok to put a reader from a different model in, provided it's a Lexus? That certainly offers a wider choice than a RX specific reader!

Much obliged,

Tim

Hi Tim.

I don't know much about these Lexus drives but I can tell you the following...

1. If the disks from the old and the new match, it's essentially the same unit but repackaged (Toyota or Lexus)

2. The part number I supplied definately works

3. You need to be sure it's a Gen 1 device or it won't work. Use disk/ Google part number to find out.

4. Rx before 2004 and ls before 2002 used the correct one.

5. As a further check make sure the output on the back is same.

Hope this helps
