It's not often I get to be rear seat passenger but today I was ordered by my 4 year old son to get in the back of my gs450h on a 40 minute trip to Oxford.

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised just how good the ride is.

I actually managed to shut my eyes for about 25 minutes of the journey and it was a most relaxing affair. Even at motorway speeds of 70mph I'd really couldn't tell I was doing more than 30mph. It was quiet, smooth and frankly very pleasant. I shouldn't be surprised as its a good drive from the drivers seat but sitting in the back gives you a different perspective.

My only small criticism would be I'd like to just slightly recline the rear seat to make it perfect.

I imagine the LS rear room and additional seat adjustment would be sublime on journeys even if most of us rarely get to be back seat passengers.

If you've ever watched Indiana Jones all you need is a couple of wooden blocks attached to the bottom of the shoes :)

Only ever sat in the back of my LS when stationary, reclined the seat and set the massage programme off.

This is the problem with the LS, they are really designed to give the rear seat passengers the ultimate ride and yet most owners rarely experience it.

I have a real soft spot for a ls600 next time around but how often would I get to experience the rear comforts.

That said, I still love the idea.

Talking of wooden blocks, I once new a man who had an old 3lt John player special Capri. Was a lovely car but rather thirsty.

His solution to improve the economy , place a specifically sized block of wood under the accelerater pedal thus reducing revs and consequently improving economy. Unfortunately one day barring down on the loud pedal the block become loose and sprang from the pedal with great accuracy almost breaking his nose.

After that He decided there had to be better ways to be efficient..that is a true story to...
