Have booked my 300h Fsport in next week to have a set of winter tyres fitted.

I did buy a set of 17" alloy wheels with a view to fitting winter tyres to them, but when you add in the price of the TPMS sensors it would have not worked out worth it.

Less than £500 for 4 tyres fitted & the storage of my other set & £70 to do it again.

I would echo Silver Arrow's comment; the benefit isn't just for snow, if you are talking about winter tyres (rather than snow) the benefits also extend to helping to avoid aquaplaning.

I bought a spare set of LS400 wheels on eBay last weekend (collecting them tomorrow) that I'm then fitting winter tyres to. I also a have a set for my VR6.

The average UK temperature high in the UK is 10 in November and 7 in December. I normally change them late November when the average is around 8 degrees.

Pairing with two sets of sensors makes a lot of sense for cars used in areas of europe with compulsory use of winter tyres as you see most cars in the Alps using black painted steel wheels in the winter. How can find out if the IS has this facility?

Have any of you seen the new Michelin Cross Climate? They're better than "normal" all seasons to use all year round and are actually pretty good in the snow. Sadly not many sizes are covered for bigger Lexus wheels yet but I think they are bringing out more sizes early next year.

Yeah they are the bees knees - awesome tyres. Id get them for every car I own if they were made in the right sizes.

They properly work as well!

All season's on my RX have been great so far. Very heavy rain has had no impact compared to normal tyres, very good in the dry as well. Will find out in the snow I guess but Ive never had winter tyres as I dont need/use them.

You have Cross Climates on your RX? Wow.

No lol, I have Michelin Latitude Tour HP

But - cross climates are great - they are on my father in law's crappy golf and they are really really good

Hankook 4seasons on our Golf - unbelievable!

That's what I had on my Mazda. Traction on a cold wet day was borderline dangerous, wheel spin / poor braking. They weren't that much better on a warm dry day. Good in the snow though.

Would not waste my money on all season tyres as they do not perform well on everything.

Prefer to have 2 decent sets designed for the different temperatures & conditions.

So I had the winters tyres fitted on Saturday (good idea after experiencing 4 season the day before, snow / sleet / sun / hail and gales, and all in sunny Yorkshire!).

I went for Dunlop ultragrip 5, only complaint so far is they don't have much rim protection, but the drive seems good (feels slightly softer), plenty of grip in the wet.

Bring on the snow!

So where are your wheels?

Just had a set of new winter Kumho KW27 winter tyres fitted to mine tonight.

Now ready for anything the weather can throw at us, have been stuck in the snow & ice before I learned how good winter tyres are on a rear wheel drive car.
