Sorry to bring up an old topic but due to corroded pipes I am going to get the rear air pipes welded up but after reading old topics am not sure if they should be welded up as two seperate pipes or made into a loop, I cannot find a schematic in my manual and talking to other owners there is an arguement that they should be looped to allow coolant to circulate. Can anybody confirm the correct way to isolate the rear air con

Many thanks in advance Eric

An expert opinion will be along shortly but in the meantime I am fairly confident the two pipes do not need to be joined i.e. looped.

From the diagram I have seen the front and rear AC each have their own pair of pipes so they are not in series but in parallel.

From the US ClubLexus site either crimp each pipe for a cheap and nasty fix or fit proper stop ends near the T fittings to allow possible reinstatement in the future.

My advice comes solely from reading web sites because I will probably be going this route and not from expert knowledge.

Thank you Graham, I was leaning towards sealing both pipes and not looping, also from reading posts nice to have some one confirm my thoughts.

Thanks again for reply Eric

Any recommendations on places to get the pipes welded in Berkshire area please?

Definitely do NOT connect the two pipes to make a loop under the front passenger seat- my local mechanic did this with my blessing and nearly messed the whole system up - they operate under different pressures.

The only thing I would say is to get them capped off professionally - I have a few goes with custom compression joints and failed miserably.

Front AC more than good enough for the car. It required a new condenser (circa £220 Lexus supply only) and was all done by an AC specialist near Benfleet in Essex, so too far for you unfortunately, but I can dig out their name if you are interested..
