My is250 has just developed a serious squeaking noise when I use the accelerator. It seems to be coming from the front of the car so I am thinking it is some belt issue. Any advice appreciated.

Have a look around the front coolant expansion bottle area - specifically at the water pump .... any white crust visible? It could be your water pump...

when it makes the sound pour some water on the belt and see if that reduces or fixes it. It's the belt then.

Cheers jack but no luck. The noise has developed to a chirping / rattle sound coming from the top part of the belt system (water pump?).

post a video if you can. I would like it hear it.

If not is it something like this :

Watch "2007 IS250 Engine Noise" on YouTube -

If it's the water pump get it done before your engine overheats, I guess.

Sad Lexus is just any other car.

It sounds just like that. It is also very sluggish when pulling away, then it seems the engine jumps into action.

has the engine over heated by any chance ? UK weather won't allow it to over heat easily but if pump is not working then water isn't circulating in the engine. Can you check the color and amount of coolant you have? Only do this when engine is cold. There is DIY on US forms for replacing the pump. Let me know what a garage quotes you.

Also, does it come cheaper if you buy your own parts ?...

I won't drive the car around anymore .

Cheers jack and no the car has not overheated. I just topped up the coolant a few days ago.

The noise really only started a couple of days ago just as I was thinking about part x ing for an F sport I have had my eye on. The Lexus garage offered me a grand less than I was hoping for due to the engine problem.

You will be looking at around £300 for an indie garage to replace the part.

Worth the spend if you can get the £1000 back against the other car

What mileage is the car on ?

If you look on eBay at the moment - listing number 181803147557 - from Lexus Birmingham, they are listing an OEM water pump for £125

Had the work done today and the car is now working fine. New water pump £311 fitted. My is has done 86,000 on a 55 plate.

Might keep the old girl until after xmas now then start a fresh looking for a newer one.
